Hey berries! We are due with our second boy in a few weeks and are still undecided on his name. Big brother is Theodore nn Theo. Jude was on my list for him and now we’re considering it for number two. I’m just wondering if it’s too short compared to Theodore? There’s no real nickname potential which is normally what we prefer. Other names on our list are Maxwell nn Max and Oliver nn Ollie. Jude is just standing out more to me right now. Do you like Jude, Maxwell or Oliver? Oliver is my least favorite but my husbands top name. Feel free to suggest middle names as well. We need all the help we can get. Thanks for your input!
I definitely don’t think [name_u]Jude[/name_u] is too short, whether on its own or next to [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] ‘Theo’. I think it’s a brilliant name but then again I would - I gave it to my newborn baby just three weeks ago 
And I personally like that it’s short and doesn’t need a nickname. It’s straightforward, strong, and easy to wear.
[name_u]Maxwell[/name_u] and [name_u]Oliver[/name_u] are nice too and both suit [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] style-wise but they’re both more popular/commonly used than [name_u]Jude[/name_u], which is something to consider.
They’re classics though and I don’t really think you can go wrong, whichever name you ultimately choose.

I really love [name_u]Jude[/name_u], but I agree that it looks short next to [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] - I find those kind of imbalances unsettling, so it would be a deal breaker for me personally.
I really love [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] and [name_u]Maxwell[/name_u] together - lovely balance, and great nicknames!

I don’t think [name_u]Jude[/name_u] is necessarily too short, even with a brother with a longer name like [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]. my brother and I both have longer names than our sister, her names [name_f]Eva[/name_f] while my brothers name is [name_m]Jonathan[/name_m] (mine is Agnes), and I’ve always thought our names work nicely together as a subset. kind of just because they compliment each other. as do, I think, [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] and [name_u]Jude[/name_u]. more so because you use [name_u]Theo[/name_u] as a nickname. [name_u]Theo[/name_u] and [name_u]Jude[/name_u] is a really sweet combo.

Not at all. Perhaps go for a longer middle name to make the overall combo feel balanced if you wanted.

Firstly [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] is such a strong classic you chose brilliantly for your first child. [name_u]Jude[/name_u], [name_u]Maxwell[/name_u] & [name_u]Oliver[/name_u] are all lovely names as well.
Personally I think [name_u]Jude[/name_u] is a bit short next to [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] visually the pair look a bit mismatched and sound wise I think [name_u]Jude[/name_u] is spunkier feels different to [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]. Still I think if you paired [name_u]Jude[/name_u] with a classic like [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] it could result in the sibling set feeling more cohesive.
Concerning [name_u]Maxwell[/name_u] & [name_u]Oliver[/name_u] I think they sound better with [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] especially [name_u]Maxwell[/name_u]. [name_u]Maxwell[/name_u] sounds amazing with [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] stylistically they just work! Maybe [name_u]Maxwell[/name_u] [name_u]Jude[/name_u]?
I wanted to suggest [name_u]Jonah[/name_u] to you. [name_u]Jonah[/name_u] is a lovely name and to me has a similar vibe to [name_u]Jude[/name_u] with the name feeling upbeat and outdoorsy also they both share that J sound which you clearly like. However I think [name_u]Jonah[/name_u] is a better fit for Theodore’s brother. I just think they work! [name_u]Jonah[/name_u] & [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] both share that ‘o’ sound, [name_u]Jonah[/name_u] is visually longer so doesn’t feel visually mismatched and he comes with the nickname ‘Joe’ which feels just as friendly as [name_u]Theo[/name_u]. [name_u]Theo[/name_u] & [name_u]Joe[/name_u] would be friends!

I really appreciate your detailed response. I’m going to ponder [name_u]Jonah[/name_u] and see what hubby thinks of it as well. I think I like it! I agree about [name_u]Maxwell[/name_u] fitting very well with [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]. I suggested [name_u]Maxwell[/name_u] [name_u]Jude[/name_u] to my husband this evening and he didn’t veto it

One of my husbands favorite names is [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m], so I’ll definitely suggest [name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] to him. [name_u]Love[/name_u] it. Also love [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] and [name_m]Maximilian[/name_m] as middle name options.
while i do think that [name_u]Maxwell[/name_u] & [name_u]Oliver[/name_u] match [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] better, if [name_u]Jude[/name_u] is your favourite you should still use it! if you want a longer name, i think [name_u]Julian[/name_u] nn [name_u]Jude[/name_u] is cute and goes well with [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] (especially if the middle name starts with a d, but that’s not essential).

[name_f]My[/name_f] thoughts are ditto to those of @TDFM and as [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] is known as [name_u]Theo[/name_u], it works perfectly! I also like that it doesn’t need a nickname and that he will be known by his given name. Suggesting you use one of the other favourites as his middle, but other suggestions…

I like [name_u]Jude[/name_u] with [name_u]Theo[/name_u] and from the sounds of it you prefer [name_u]Jude[/name_u] as well. [name_u]Jude[/name_u] is a nickname for [name_u]Julian[/name_u] it you were looking for something longer.

I don’t think it’s too short! I see [name_u]Jude[/name_u] as very distinctive and it definitely holds up to [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]. If you really wanted a longer name, maybe [name_u]Judah[/name_u] nn [name_u]Jude[/name_u]? But I personally prefer just [name_u]Jude[/name_u] and think it works great
