I adore [name]Katharine[/name], but only this spelling. I’ve come back around to considering it recently, but a few people have described it as ‘boring’ which concerns me! I also worry about the fact that the name would undoubtedly be constantly spelled [name]Katherine[/name]/[name]Catherine[/name] and would need correcting all the time.
My name is [name]Katie[/name], just [name]Katie[/name], and I’ve always wished that my parents had used [name]Katherine[/name] {or some other longer form} as my full name. I think that [name]Katharine[/name] is really pretty, and that this spelling is being used more now {at least I’ve heard it more}.
I love [name]Katharine[/name]! I personally prefer the [name]Catherine[/name] spelling but I do like [name]Katharine[/name], too. I don’t think it’s boring at all!
Not at all! It’s classic and beautiful. [name]Love[/name] the nn [name]Kate[/name], [name]Kat[/name] is really cute too. Makes me think of the princess
I love [name]Catherine[/name], too (though this is how I prefer it). While [name]Katharine[/name] isn’t the most common spelling, it’s how the great Ms. Hepburn spelled her name. A [name]Katharine[/name] would probably always have to spell it out for someone, but so would [name]Kathryn[/name] (or [name]Katheryn[/name], [name]Katheren[/name], [name]Catharin[/name], [name]Katheryne[/name]–and even [name]Katherine[/name]/Catherines probably have to specify, “No, it’s with a K/C” now and then).
Nope, I don’t think it’s boring at all. I have a [name]SIL[/name] who is [name]Katharine[/name], this spelling! and it does add a uniqueness to the name. If you like it, use it. x
I am a [name]Katharine[/name] and go by [name]Katie[/name]. I still to this day wish I had a different name and yes, am constantly correcting people on the spelling. No one ever gets it right unless it’s on a legal document. While I do like the [name]Katharine[/name] spelling the best as opposed to [name]Katherine[/name]/[name]Kathryn[/name]/[name]Catherine[/name], I personally am not a fan of my name. I’d prefer [name]Kate[/name] instead!
I don’t think the name is boring, and there are a lot of nn opportunities too
I’m a [name]Kathryn[/name] and always have to spell my name out for people.
“[name]Kathryn[/name]”
“Is that with a C or a K?”
“K, and it’s T-H-R-Y-N.”
But I guess most other [name]Kathryn[/name]/[name]Katherine[/name]/[name]Katharine[/name]/[name]Catherine[/name] etc etc. do as well.
I don’t have particularly strong feelings regarding my name. Everyone always calls me by my full name but I wouldn’t mind being a “[name]Kate[/name]”, or as my username suggests, “[name]Rin[/name]”.

I don’t think it’s boring, it is very common for girls now in their early 30’s, but not so much for babies being born now. I love [name]Kate[/name] as a nn too. I think it is a lovely classic.
BUT I have a friend with the name, spelt with an ‘a’ and it drives her crazy that it is always misspelt. She says she has the worst of both worlds - a common name (for her generation), so often she is one of many… PLUS dramas with misspelling, as if it was an unusual name.
I have a [name]Katharine[/name] so I think it’s terrific. She’s only 3 though so to soon to see if she hates me for dooming her to a life of correcting people’s spelling. I’ve been “brainwashing” her by getting excited when we see it in print and refering to it as the pretty spelling of Katharine.
Although my daughter is [name]Caitlin[/name] (and she constantly has to correct the spelling to people who want to trendify it), I love the spelling [name]Katharine[/name], but then I grew up next door to Miss Hepburn and saw her every summer. My daughter was [name]Kate[/name]/[name]Katie[/name] most of her childhood in Hepburn’s honour. I’ve always had to correct people in spelling my name too, and you just get used to it. [name]Katharine[/name] is a beautiful name, and it will always trump the Madisons, Neveahs, Destinys, and [name]Blue[/name] Ivys.
PS [name]Katharine[/name] Hepburn was from a completely different family than [name]Audrey[/name] Hepburn, who was Belgian. Hepburn grew up in Hartford and had a brother named [name]Tom[/name].
YES! It’s my nieces name & all of our family talk about how much we hate it. No offense. I just believe in honest opinions. I love the name [name]Kate[/name] but this girl is 8 & they’ve decided to stick with [name]Katharine[/name]. Please, for the sake of you daughter, don’t do it!
Personally, I do think it’s boring. [name]Don[/name]'t get my wrong, I think it’s very elegant and has so much history but in my opinion it’s a little dull. In the UK [name]Katherine[/name]/[name]Kathryn[/name] is more popular than [name]Catherine[/name] as far as I know, but most people normally ask if it’s with a C or a K.
I love lots of it’s variants, though. [name]Kitty[/name] and [name]Kate[/name] are just gorgeous. I’m also a bit of a sucker for the very cool Katrinka - so sweet!
