Hubs and I really want to honor both our heritages in our son’s name, so after a long search we decided [name_m]Koa[/name_m] [name_m]Axel[/name_m] is a strong contender.
We are bith very close to our families and therefore shared our choice. The feedback wasn’t really negative, but they did share their worries about it being too, errmm, out-there.
They also said they’ll love him no matter what we name him, and that it is our decision.
But we can’t help to think that they might be right…
So, my only thing is the [name_m]Axel[/name_m] as a middle name I immediately read Koala. My mind did that, and I’m careful. So if you’re cool with it go for it
I’m not sure how I feel about [name_m]Koa[/name_m] [name_m]Axel[/name_m]… I like both names separately but together it feels too sterile and almost pharmaceutical…
I don’t really like the way the A at the end of [name_m]Koa[/name_m] leads into the A at the beginning of [name_m]Axel[/name_m]. I think [name_m]Axel[/name_m] [name_m]Koa[/name_m] would sound better, but other than that I think the names are just fine.
If you like it, use it, but if you’re worried about the reaction, how about looking for names that both honour your heritages and sound similar to more familiar names? I quite like how it sounds though!
I didn’t notice “koala” at first but now that I do, I can’t unsee it. I think the two styles are really different which makes the name feel too try-hard. I’m not a fan but go with whatever you like!
I also would prefer the names swapped like this, but for me, it’s just because [name_m]Axel[/name_m] is a more familiar name for me than [name_m]Koa[/name_m], and so it makes it a little less “out there.”
But overall, no, it’s not “that bad” - it’s not bad at all! You do you :)!
There’s wiring called coaxial cable…that’s the first thing that came to my mind.
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you like the sounds of [name_m]Koa[/name_m] & [name_m]Axel[/name_m]? the meanings? Depending on your answer, you may want to look for names w/similar sounds or similar meanings. Good luck!
I would flip them; [name_m]Axel[/name_m] [name_m]Koa[/name_m] flows much better than [name_m]Koa[/name_m] [name_m]Axel[/name_m]. Really, there’s nothing wrong with the combination, they just don’t fit together well in that order. Other than that, I see nothing wrong with this name.
You could look for another [name_m]German[/name_m]/Nordic name, or another Hawaiian name, if your family’s reaction isn’t sitting well with you. I really like [name_u]Kai[/name_u] (and, bonus, it has origins in Hawaiian and Germanic languages, both with good meanings - “ocean” and “keeper of keys”) [name_u]Hoku[/name_u], [name_m]Viggo[/name_m], and [name_m]Benno[/name_m].
Honestly? I think it’s not that great… At all. I thought of Koala. It also looks weird together, too many repeated letters and seeing [name_m]Koa[/name_m] [name_m]Axel[/name_m] makes me want to say Koaxel or something.
I don’t think there is anything horrible about the name [name_m]Koa[/name_m] [name_m]Axel[/name_m] but I do agree that I would choose to flip the names for a different sound. [name_m]Koa[/name_m] is a neat first name and he will be known by [name_m]Koa[/name_m] Lastname for the majority of his life. Maybe tryout [name_m]Axel[/name_m] first too, but don’t automatically scrap the names you love. Good luck.
I’m another vote for [name_m]Axel[/name_m] [name_m]Koa[/name_m].
Between the short stretch to Koala and my association with the [name_m]KOA[/name_m] campgrounds I don’t think [name_m]Koa[/name_m] is your best first name choice.
I also think that [name_m]Axel[/name_m] is just a tad bit more wearable, especially on an adult. It’s unique, but it’s use by celebrity parents and of course by [name_m]Axl[/name_m] [name_f]Rose[/name_f], makes it a bit more mainstream in a fitting in, standing out kind of way.
