Is Lemon destined to a life in the fruit bowl?

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] ,

So recently I start following a mom with a little girl named [name_m]Lemon[/name_m] on social media and it’s made me realize how much I love it. When I think of it I think summer , the south (which their name tastes and mine are really similar so this checks) and the saying “when life gives you lemons make lemonade”. Plus [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] ranks. However I still question if it’s usable. What do you guys think? - the next [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] or the next “you are crazy”?

Whilst [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] was my top choice for my daughter, and is still my top choice for a future daughter, [name_m]Lemon[/name_m] is destined for the fruit bowl in my opinion. Though to be fair I wasn’t aware of the clementine orange until falling in love with the name years ago. Back to [name_m]Lemon[/name_m] – I don’t think it would be a terrible name overall.

I think it’s a very cute nickname (doesn’t even need to be based on a full name), but I wouldn’t use it as a first.
P.S. I love so many names in your signature!

I love it. Are you talking about Lemmon [name_m]Palmer[/name_m]? [name_u]Lennon[/name_u] is also a good alternative!

[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Clementine[/name_f], not [name_m]Lemon[/name_m]. I’ll second [name_u]Lennon[/name_u]!

[name_f]Clementine[/name_f] is darling, I’m even a fan of [name_f]Plum[/name_f], and I see the appeal of [name_m]Lemon[/name_m], but [name_m]Lemon[/name_m], for me, is soured by the connotation of something inherently broken, ie, “This beat up car is a lemon.”

[name_m]Lemon[/name_m] can work maybe a bit out there but I wouldn’t say it was terrible, however I’ve always thought ‘Lemen’ would make a cute nickname for [name_f]Clementine[/name_f]…

I think [name_m]Lemon[/name_m] is great! Its use on the television series [name_m]Hart[/name_m] of [name_f]Dixie[/name_f] made it seem totally wearable for me. At some point in the series, it is made explicit that (like her sister [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f]) the character [name_m]Lemon[/name_m] Breeland is named after a lemon blossom - a flower, not a fruit. [name_m]Lemon[/name_m] blossoms are beautiful!

I think I’d be more likely to use it as a nickname for [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] than on its own, but I do think it’s charming. FWIW, my wife likes to say my naming style is “Southern,” though we are not, and I tend to love word/fruit names in general (I adore [name_f]Plum[/name_f] & [name_f]Apple[/name_f]!).

This is exactly what I was going to say - the imagery I get is of a broken down car, not the fruit. I can maybe see some appeal for [name_f]Cherry[/name_f], [name_f]Apple[/name_f], [name_f]Plum[/name_f], etc., even though they’re not my style, but definitely not [name_m]Lemon[/name_m].

I’ve always thought that Lemony sounded nice (thanks Lemony Snicket) and wished it was more usable… But I don’t think it works as well as other fruit/word names. Lemons are sour, and the crappy car association makes it even less workable in my opinion.

[name_f]Clementine[/name_f] is my husband’s top choice for a future daughter (it’s a family name on his dad’s side). I think [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] has enough clout as a name that, though I do think of the fruit, like [name_f]Olive[/name_f], [name_f]Violet[/name_f], and [name_f]Rose[/name_f], I think of the name just as much if not more. [name_m]Lemon[/name_m] kind of strikes me as a Southern pet-name rather than a full name.

However, that being said, when we mentioned that we were thinking of using [name_f]Clementine[/name_f], my husband’s father mentioned that his aunt [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] was sometimes lovingly nicknamed “[name_m]Lemon[/name_m]” as a little girl.

I’m not a fan. I don’t really like [name_f]Clementine[/name_f], but at least the association is weaker. [name_m]Lemon[/name_m] is very strongly attached to the fruit. It could be a cute nickname, but I don’t like it as an actual name.

My son is [name_u]Lennon[/name_u] and I often call him [name_m]Lemon[/name_m]. I think [name_m]Lemon[/name_m] is a sweet name. To me it is sunny and bright and cheerful. Sure, lemons have a bit of a kick, what’s so wrong with that? I refer to my sin as a lemon sour patch kid, first he’s sour th n he’s sweet!
I picture a little girl with blonde hair playing outside with bare feet.

I don’t think it works, sorry! [name_m]Lemon[/name_m] has a lot of negative connections that come to mind for me before anything positive - a car that is called a “lemon” means that it doesn’t work, and in writing, a “lemon” is essentially erotica. I wouldn’t do it personally.

i can see the appeal but i couldn’t do it. I was coming to mention the same thing as the pp that to me “lemon” means smutty writing / erotica since thats how people used to tag their works on the internet.

I think as a nickname it would be fine, but don’t think I’d use it for an actual first name

Tbh I can’t picture [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] as a real name, although I know that’s an unpopular opinion on this site. [name_m]Lemon[/name_m] could be cute in theory but I think it would require the right girl to pull it off.

[name_m]Just[/name_m] to add: in the UK we sometimes call people a “lemon” as an affectionate way of saying “idiot” — as in “[name_m]How[/name_m] have you locked yourself out again, you lemon?!”

It’s a sweet idea, very fresh and fun, but I only like it as a pet name. It’s a bit too playful and “silly” for a person’s legal name, I think.

Personally I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] lemons, they are one of my favorite things to cook with, I love the way they look so happy and bright and clean, I love lemon trees and flowers, I love their smell… I also love [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] and [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] as names, for similar reasons.

[name_m]Lemon[/name_m] is probably on my guilty pleasure list, only because it feels like more of a pet name to me. However, I would be 100% behind someone else using it. I wish it was used more!

I’m not a fan of [name_m]Lemon[/name_m]- it just remind me too much of food. I think since clementine is more popular it seems “normal”. But at one point someone had to name their kid after a fruit for it to get popular (if that made sense lol). If I were to name my kid lemon it would be a nn, just because in the future if she doesn’t like it then she could always go back to her full name.

[name_m]Lemon[/name_m] isn’t usable. Not because of the fruit in my opinion (although compared to sweet clementines, sour lemons aren’t as attractive as a fruit), but more because of the use of [name_m]Lemon[/name_m] to describe crappy cars. It cheapens any potential name value [name_m]Lemon[/name_m] could have had.
