Is Linda Too Dated?

What’s your view on the girls name [name_f]Linda[/name_f]/[name_f]Lynda[/name_f]? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you find it too dated? Is it still usable?

Hmm…

I think [name_f]Linda[/name_f] is dated. I feel that it has an ‘mum’ image attached to the name. I also find the spelling [name_f]Lynda[/name_f] unattractive. I think if you want to honour a [name_f]Linda[/name_f] you should use it either as a middle name or maybe a variant of [name_f]Linda[/name_f]/names similar to [name_f]Linda[/name_f]

Yeah I think so…

But [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] or [name_f]Rosalinda[/name_f] might be nice with the nn [name_f]Linda[/name_f] or [name_f]Lindy[/name_f]

Of course it’s usable. There’s nothing wrong with it at all. I love [name_f]Linny[/name_f] as a nickname

I’ve never understood the concept of dated names. I love names from the 40’s 50’s and 60’s. Other people love names from the 1890’s so those are dated as well, I guess?? If you love a name the “dated” issue shouldn’t be an issue at all.

[name_f]Linda[/name_f] has always been one of my favorite girl’s names. I say go for it and please use it if YOU love it! She will [name_u]Love[/name_u] it too!

I like [name_f]Linda[/name_f]. Datedness doesn’t matter mostly. No one is going to think about a little girl as a fifty year old woman. It is just a nice name that would fit anyone. [name_f]Linda[/name_f] seems close to a classic name to me anyway, plus it’s kind of cute. It’s absolutely usable today. I really like [name_f]Belinda[/name_f] as another form.

It does feel a little dated, but I think all it needs is a cute little girl with the name to freshen it up so I wouldn’t worry about it. [name_f]Lynda[/name_f] is unattractive and an awful attempt to “modernize.” If you’re unsure if [name_f]Linda[/name_f] on its own, I like [name_f]Lucinda[/name_f] (nn [name_f]Linda[/name_f], [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], [name_f]Lindy[/name_f], [name_f]Linny[/name_f]), [name_f]Melinda[/name_f] ([name_f]Linda[/name_f], [name_f]Lindy[/name_f], [name_f]Mindy[/name_f]) or [name_f]Belinda[/name_f] ([name_f]Linda[/name_f], [name_f]Lindy[/name_f], Bindi).

To me, it is. [name_f]Linda[/name_f] is a frumpy librarian or a soccer mom.

With a Spanish accent, [name_f]Linda[/name_f] is gorgeous. It is dated though, no way around that. [name_f]Melinda[/name_f] is a good thought. [name_f]Belinda[/name_f] reminds me of the chicken from Return to [name_m]Oz[/name_m]. :-b

It’s very dated. No offence intended, but I don’t like [name_f]Melinda[/name_f] or [name_f]Belinda[/name_f] or [name_f]Lucinda[/name_f]. [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] is ok…

If you want to get a fresh sense of the name, check out the Wallender TV serial, which is available on Netflix. The one starring [name_m]Kenneth[/name_m] Branagh. The Wallender character’s daughter is a beautiful, smart, blonde young woman named [name_f]Linda[/name_f]. It works really well, actually, on a young person, and feels fresh and unexpected.

[name_f]Linda[/name_f] feels dated in my mind, but if you love it by all means use it. [name_f]Lindy[/name_f] is a “fresher” option

For me, yes it’s too dated.

Use [name_f]Belinda[/name_f]. The options are then [name_f]Linda[/name_f] or [name_f]Belle[/name_f] for her to go by if either fit.

Sounds like a “mom” name in English but it’s beautiful in Spanish [name_f]IMO[/name_f] (pron. Leen-da).

I’ve sort of been crushing on [name_f]Linda[/name_f] recently. I do think it’s dated though, so I’ve been thinking about [name_f]Melinda[/name_f] nn [name_f]Lindy[/name_f], I think that would be precious.

Sorry, but I have to agree; it is dated, at least in the U.S. It will probably take at least one more generation before it is “rediscovered,” like [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] and [name_u]Ruby[/name_u]. But if that idea doesn’t bother you, and you truly love the name, go for it.

I prefer [name_f]Glinda[/name_f]. As in the Good witch from the [name_m]Wizard[/name_m] of [name_m]Oz[/name_m].

I know what you mean! I love “vintage” names I think a lot of them are really gorgeous. I have nothing against “vintage” names a lot of the names on my list are “vintage” I just wanted to know people’s view of the name [name_f]Linda[/name_f]. I have always respected the name [name_f]Linda[/name_f] though. What’s your favorite name then?
I have too many to name!

I think [name_f]Rosalinda[/name_f] would be a cute alternative!
