Is "Lot" usable as a middle name?

Is Lot (from the Quran/Bible) usable as a middle name? I’m thinking about [name_m]Timothy[/name_m] Lot.

I don’t know about the Quran, but in the Bible, he’s not seen in a very positive light. At least, not to me? His uncle gave him everything, and then gave him the first choice of land, and he chose the nicer for himself, and really didn’t seem to consider his uncle’s generosity at all? And then he lived amongst such evil in Sodom and Gomorrah, and didn’t really seem to want to believe that they should be stopped. In fact, I’m pretty sure he offered up his two daughters to get gang raped instead of letting his visitor, the [name_u]Angel[/name_u] of God, receive the same treatment? (And then, after his wife died, his two daughters lay with him to give him sons to continue on his lineage, which even further blows my mind…) I’m all about Bible names, and even though others outside of my faith may not understand the merit in some characters, a lot of them are generally redeemable. I’m not sure I can think of even one for Lot. I guess I can see the merit as a name, but I like other unusual Bible names more. [name_m]Timothy[/name_m] Lot is intriguing, but I don’t think I’d do it, personally.

ETA: I feel like I was quite scathing in my response to Lot, and if I came across that way, I’m sorry! I have a good deal of frustration here on my end with things not related to this forum at all, and I think some of that frustration probably came out into my response. It’s true that I’ve never been a fan of the character of Lot–he’s always come across to me like a petulant spoiled rich kid who gets everything handed to him, but is never grateful and never had to work for anything a day in his life, but I think my frustrations severely heightened my feelings, lol! I adore the girls’ nn Lottie, so one would think I would like Lot, too, but I can’t get past the Bible character, who, depending on the day, I find mildly annoying to, apparently, the scum of the earth. lol.

The Quranic version is a little bit different, He frequently warned the people of Sodom about there sinful ways and considered them his “bethren” whom he wanted save. asked the mob to spare his guest (the angels) and offered his daughters to marry them, rather than rape. Most Quranic scholars deny he drank nor committed incest.

As for the Bible, I’m pretty sure Lot’s daughters got him deplorably drunk and raped him, while he was passed out, so that can get pregnant. For the offering his daughters to the mob, I can’t really speak for that, but I found this interesting article by some apologist: Why did Lot offer up his daughters to be gang raped? Why did God allow Lot’s daughters to later have sex with their father? | GotQuestions.org

But please let us end this religious conversation, I’ve seen these get very ugly on places like Imdb and Youtube. Regardless of the Biblical narrative, The Quran declares Lot to be a very righteous and respectable man and that’s enough for me to use it.

Hm. I’m not familiar with Lot in the Bible or the Qur’an, so I can’t speak to Lot’s usability in that respect. It does seem odd as a name, mostly because when I hear the word “lot” I think of an empty space. But I suppose it’s not any stranger than [name_f]Lottie[/name_f]? I don’t know. This is tough to call.

Yes, I would agree that it’s a little different! But yes, you’re also right in that his daughters got him drunk and took advantage of his drunken state, but he also let himself get drunk, as the article you posted stated. And of course. I wouldn’t have let it get ugly, and I’m sure you wouldn’t have, either, but I don’t think religious discussions are particularly encouraged on here, because of the chance that they could get ugly, and I don’t want to cause any problems.
