I think my parents hit the sweet spot with my name (which I won’t reveal hehe) - it’s very easy to pronounce and spell but I have never, ever met another person with this name. It’s two syllables, simple but rare. For years I’ve had [name_f]Luna[/name_f] on my list as a name that inhabits this sweet spot, but recently it’s shot up the charts at a rate of knots, and then started to waver.
I’m at least 5-10 years away from having my first child, so I’m watching this name with baited breath to see what happens to it in the long run.
Since our society in general has a shorter attention span these days (think Tik Tok, meme lifespans, cancel culture) I wonder if it’ll become a fast-fashion name that we toss aside just as quickly as we found it, giving it that dated and used feeling.
Or will it remain at the top of the charts and turn into a classic favourite for this time period?
What are your predictions for [name_f]Luna[/name_f]? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think it’ll be a fast-fashion name of the 2020’s?
I think [name_f]Luna[/name_f] is a name that’ll stay and always have some popularity this is largely due to the fact that it’s a appealing and sweet name that follows multiple name trends and the fact that there are a lot of great connections to it!
Luna is a pretty name. I don’t think it’s exactly fast fashion but it definitely isn’t in that rare sweet spot anymore. It is really quite trendy and popular right now. However, I think the appeal of the name will outlive the trendiness and it will feel more like a modern classic than a trendy blip.
Luna is “trendy” as in a lot of people like it, so it is climbing up the charts, but not like names ending in -lyn/lynn or -lee/leigh. Those types of names, made up names or various unique spellings of names, I associate with being trends, that will go out of fashion. [name_f]Luna[/name_f], however, is not a made up name or a name that I believe is “fast-fashion.” It’s a beautiful name, with a beautiful meaning. It’s short and sweet, and I think that’s why a lot of people are attracted to it. But I would not associate it with fast-fashioned names like made up -lyn/lynn/lee/leigh names.
I think [name_f]Luna[/name_f] will become very dated to this generation, but it’s still a lovely name.
I would never have thought of this. I might even say the opposite because of the popularity of soap operas (and soap opera inspired names) in previous generations. [name_f]Katina[/name_f] fell dramatically after two years (1972-73) [name_m]Even[/name_m] [name_f]Luna[/name_f]'s stuck around longer than that
It won’t become dated, not if it’s my daughter’s nickname
I’m kidding. Sort of.
I love this name. I like Evaluna more of course, but [name_f]Luna[/name_f] is also amazing.
I think it’ll become a classic space name. It’s no different to [name_f]Stella[/name_f] which has been around as a reasonably popular name for centuries.
Maybe, but it was always around so I don’t reckon it will be dated like surname-y or made up names (think [name_u]Everly[/name_u], [name_f]Raelynn[/name_f], [name_f]Kinsley[/name_f] etc) in the future. I can see it becoming a modern classic.
I think the only difference between [name_f]Luna[/name_f] and a name like [name_u]Everly[/name_u] is that [name_f]Luna[/name_f] was used for a period in the late 19th century. The stratospheric rise in popularity since 2003 is pretty similar to [name_u]Everly[/name_u]’s since 2012 (though over a reasonably longer period of time). The name it most reminds me of (ignoring the 19th century original popularity) is [name_u]Harper[/name_u], which has risen to similar levels from a 2004 baseline.
Personally, I think it is going to date, though I could be wrong and it could hold on for a long time like some of the traditional classics have. I think aside from the traditional biblical choices or some really out-there names that are never popular, most names that are currently popular will date when the trends change. If you like the name, use it anyway is my best suggestion.
I agree
I think [name_f]Luna[/name_f] is beautiful name, but it is rising like fast fashion name. We can’t guess what will happen in 2030, but we can reasonably assume it will start to decline.
I like [name_f]Runa[/name_f], which may be very similar in theme or sound.
I really like this name but, yes, I think it could very well be considered a dated name in the future. Very few names are truly evergreen and most popular names fall out of fashion eventually. Some names names do buck the trend (e.g. [name_f]Samantha[/name_f], which came from a 1960s TV show but was popular for long after it aired, and is still relatively popular), but many don’t. However, I don’t think that makes [name_f]Luna[/name_f] a bad choice at all.
