[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] is actually usable or is it one of those names that might sounds nice in theory but not actually on a real child?
I would use the nn [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] but I dont seem to like any of the other ways to get to [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] (ie Maragret)
Yes, [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] is totally usable. [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] and [name_f]Azura[/name_f] are both gaining popularity in my area, so I think you’re safe.
Oh, I used to have this debate with myself all the time. Ultimately I decided that for me, it’s not usable. It’s a bit over the top, I think. I did mention this name to a few people though and everyone said it was cute and not too weird.
I think it is totally usable. Aesthetically it is not the type of name that I like, which is the only reason I wouldn’t use it.
I think it is usable for several reasons:
#1 It resembles the diminutives of [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] like [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] so aesthetically it is fine #2 It is the name of a flower, which is more than socially acceptable #3 It really reminds me of the South, I think of a Southern [name_f]Belle[/name_f] when I hear this name
I know of a baby [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f], but don’t know if she goes by [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] or not (I think so). If it weren’t the baby of an ex boyfriend, I’d be more inclined to consider it, as it’s a beautiful name and a great twist on [name_f]Maggie[/name_f].
She’s a gorgeous name, very sweet, demure, elegant, with a great southern belle sound. I love the [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] and [name_f]Nola[/name_f] nicknames as well. [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] is just lovely : )
I think [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] is definitely usable, and I have pretty tame taste. [name_f]Nola[/name_f] is a sweet nickname, as is [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] (but I’m biased).
A few years ago, I would have said it’s really pretty but slightly ‘out there’ for most people. Now, with flower (and even more obscure nature) names seemingly everywhere, I think it would work. It definitely will still be unexpected to many, but in a refreshing way -not a weird one- I suppose because [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] as a word is so familiar.
I’m in the US so geography could certainly change that a bit. I think of [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] as a much more substantial/ less cutesy alternative to [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] (even though I love [name_f]Clementine[/name_f]). I think it is for sure wearable.
Also, if you’re planning on a more common nickname like [name_f]Maggie[/name_f], I love the idea of getting it from a less common name like [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f].
I think it’s totally usable, but my husband seems to think it’s too fussy-sounding. I love [name_f]Maggie[/name_f], [name_f]Mia[/name_f], [name_f]Meg[/name_f], & [name_f]Lia[/name_f] as nns for it, and [name_f]Nola[/name_f] works too if you like that. I say go for it!
