[name_m]Hi[/name_m], this is my first post so I’m not sure if it’s in the right place etc.
Anyway, I’m expecting and looking for some advice.
I want to honour my grandparents with my babies’ names as both my mother and I were named after our great-grandparents and think the family connection is really nice.
[name_f]My[/name_f] grandmother’s names was [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f]. I think that it is quite bright and dainty but I understand that some think it’s dated. Nevertheless I love the connection and would love to call my baby it if she’s a she, and she would go by [name_u]Rory[/name_u].
The problem is that I already have a [name_f]Mary[/name_f] (who goes by Mae). Is [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] and [name_f]Mary[/name_f] (or [name_u]Rory[/name_u] and Mae) too much? If so any alternatives? Also middle names for [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] would be appreciated.
However if it’s a boy I plan to go with [name_u]William[/name_u] or [name_u]Robert[/name_u], again honouring grandparents. What do you prefer? Also middle names would be great.
i personally do think its a little to matchy as a set. however i think its awesome you want to honor your grandmother. if she had a middle name i think it might be awesome to think about using that for your daughter as a first!
alternatives:
m names:
maggie
maxine
mallory
melanie
maeve
same vibes:
lorelei
dorothy
elaine
william v robert
robert is superrr dated to me lol, so i much prefer william, which also has cuter nickname options! (opinion)
While I do think [name_f]Mary[/name_f] and [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] do share a couple sounds, they’re not too matchy for sisters! and especially if they go by [name_u]Rory[/name_u] & [name_f]Mae[/name_f], then you should be fine (there may be a couple people who think you used [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] to match [name_f]Mary[/name_f] though)!
I love both [name_u]William[/name_u] & [name_u]Robert[/name_u], but I think [name_f]Mary[/name_f] & [name_u]William[/name_u] would be absolutely adorable together! They’re both timeless classics, so you can really go wrong either way.
I don’t think [name_f]Mary[/name_f] and [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] are too close at all. Matchy sibsets and alliteration are quite popular at the moment, and I don’t think people will look twice! [name_f]Mary[/name_f] and, for example, [name_f]Marnie[/name_f] would be too close for siblings (in my opinion,) just because of the similar sounds. However the short spunkiness of [name_f]Mary[/name_f] contrasts beautifully with the long elegance of [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f], and [name_f]Mae[/name_f] & [name_u]Rory[/name_u] are adorable together! Best of luck
First of all, [name_f]Mary[/name_f] “Mae” is adorable, and I adore [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] and am so glad to see it considered! I especially love that it has such a special connection for you [name_f]Mary[/name_f] and [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] are maybe a bit closer than I would ideally prefer for siblings, but I definitely think they’re doable. And combined with the fact that both kids would go by nicknames (Rory & [name_f]Mae[/name_f] is such a sweet pairing!) and the fact that [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] is so meaningful to your family, I’m absolutely in favor! I think [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] [name_f]Ella[/name_f] or [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] [name_u]Hazel[/name_u] would be a really sweet combo.
For a boy, I prefer [name_u]William[/name_u], and I think it fits perfectly with [name_f]Mary[/name_f]. Although if you wanted to use [name_u]Rory[/name_u], I think you could get away with it as a nickname for [name_u]Robert[/name_u]! I like the idea of something along the lines of [name_u]William[/name_u] [name_u]Jude[/name_u], [name_u]William[/name_u] [name_m]Otis[/name_m], or [name_u]Robert[/name_u] [name_u]Ray[/name_u].
As others have stated I think [name_f]Mary[/name_f] and [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] are fine together, and I love the meaning [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] holds for your family. [name_f]Mae[/name_f] and [name_u]Rory[/name_u] are so sweet as siblings.
I think [name_f]Mary[/name_f] and [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] work very well as sisters. And add to that the fact that they would mostly be called [name_f]Mae[/name_f] and [name_u]Rory[/name_u], I see no problem at all.
I agree that the beautiful old name [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] (like her sister’s name Mary) is very usable and ready for a comeback. You’re just a little ahead of the trend!
I prefer [name_u]William[/name_u] over [name_u]Robert[/name_u]. What about [name_u]William[/name_u] [name_u]Robert[/name_u]?
[name_f]My[/name_f] grandma and her sister were a [name_f]Mary[/name_f] & [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] so I obviously love it! I’m also in love with your nicknames…. So cute
And I’m a huge fan of honor names!!
I don’t think [name_f]Mary[/name_f] and [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] are too close. The lengths are different and Marjorie’s -jor- sound makes them distinct enough imo. Especially with the nicknames.
I love that you’re using family names that hold special meaning to you! I think [name_f]Mary[/name_f] and [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f], although similar to look at, are distinctive enough as the mar sound in both is different. So I think they work well as sisters, especially if they predominantly go by their nicknames anyway.
And I prefer [name_u]William[/name_u] (although just my opinion), even though [name_f]Mary[/name_f] and [name_u]William[/name_u] together remind me of [name_f]Queen[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f] II and [name_m]King[/name_m] [name_u]William[/name_u] III. I also agree with what others have said in that I think [name_u]William[/name_u] [name_u]Robert[/name_u] and [name_u]Robert[/name_u] [name_u]William[/name_u] work well in combination.
For [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f], I’ve had her on my own list before as…
I think that’s really cute! And I have a story that I hope will help settle your worries about their names being similar!
My cousins are named Mary and Margaret, which are very similar in the way that Mary and Marjorie are! However, they go by Molly and Daisy. It’s not confusing, they have tons of nickname options, and all of their names are super cute.
Mae and Rory / Mary and Marjorie as sisters is adorable! Go for it!!
I love [name_f]Mary[/name_f] and [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] as sisters and I don’t think they are too close to be useable ! However I’m bias because [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] is my grandma’s name as well and I idolize her !
