Is Mary plain?

[name_f]Mary[/name_f] is a name i have always felt neutral about it. Recently my grandmother [name_f]Maria[/name_f] had an attact, and my feelings for the name change. I dont like [name_f]Maria[/name_f] but i love [name_f]Mary[/name_f] as an honor for her. I also have many cousins called [name_f]Maria[/name_f].

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you find [name_f]Mary[/name_f] to be plain and boring? Can it stand out in 2019?

I think it is a beautiful underused classic name that would certainly stand out in a positive way in 2019.

I 100% agree, same for [name_f]Marie[/name_f] btw

I really love [name_f]Mary[/name_f] (and [name_f]Marie[/name_f]) and think they’re both beautifully underused in this day and age.

I don’t think that [name_f]Mary[/name_f] is plain. Most [name_f]Marys[/name_f] (and I probably know more than most because I attend Catholic school and am involved with my local parish) that I know are older or go almost exclusively by their middle name. A [name_f]Mary[/name_f] called [name_f]Mary[/name_f] is fresh; a [name_f]Mary[/name_f] going by her middle name feels too common in my social circle.

I personally feel neutral about [name_f]Mary[/name_f] but I do not think it’s boring or plain.

I don’t hear [name_f]Mary[/name_f] at all where I live, so she feels distinctive enough. Beautiful name!

It’s not. I always think it’s such a sweet name. Simple and classic.

I’m so sorry about your grandmother. I don’t find [name_f]Mary[/name_f] plain at all. It’s rich with history and meaning, classic, and tailored. [name_f]Mary[/name_f] has a lot of gravity, and I’d love to meet a young [name_f]Mary[/name_f]. I also like [name_f]Mary[/name_f] in the middle with lots of more “current” popular names like [name_u]Vivian[/name_u], [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], and [name_f]Sophia[/name_f].

I really love the name [name_f]Mary[/name_f]. I don’t consider it plain, and I think it would stand out in a world of increasingly “creative” choices.

Is [name_f]Mary[/name_f] plain? This question puzzles me because what I love about [name_f]Mary[/name_f] is her simplicity. The name is homespun and perhaps a little austere, but I find that beautiful. She’s gentle, mystical, and earthy, but, unlike some other Berries, I don’t see [name_f]Mary[/name_f] as demure: for me, she’s got a bit of wildness in her. [name_f]Mary[/name_f] is perfect if you want a name with gravitas and spiritual depth that can suit any kind of personality. It’s my favourite girls’ name.

Honestly, I do find [name_f]Mary[/name_f] very boring. It’s the most prevalent female name of all time, so I definitely see it as overexposed, despite the fact that I don’t meet any young [name_f]Mary[/name_f]'s these days. I actually think [name_f]Maria[/name_f] has more pizzazz and [name_f]Marie[/name_f] has more charm than just plain old [name_f]Mary[/name_f].

I think [name_f]Mary[/name_f] is okay but she’s personally a bit stale from me, growing up in a predominantly Irish community.

I’ve always had a soft spot for [name_f]Marie[/name_f] though thanks to the Disney character.

I agree with this and the other positive comments about [name_f]Mary[/name_f]. Not boring at all for me. I’m surrounded by Avas, Lailas, Ellas and Evies and similar sounding names and amongst them [name_f]Mary[/name_f] is fresh and unexpected.

Both [name_f]Mary[/name_f] and [name_f]Marie[/name_f] are ready for revival in my opinion. I prefer [name_f]Marie[/name_f], but [name_f]Mary[/name_f] is very pretty.

It’s very pretty, but if your last name is super common (like [name_m]Smith[/name_m] or [name_m]Brown[/name_m] or something) I would use something else.

Yes, [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_m]Smith[/name_m] might come across as plain, but in a world of Sophias, Isabellas, Emmas, etc. [name_f]Mary[/name_f] Kowolski can make a big impact. If you feel it’s too plain, try the closely related [name_f]Marie[/name_f] or [name_f]Miriam[/name_f].

[name_f]Mary[/name_f] is a nice name, but if I’m honest, I do find it a bit boring. If you love it, go for it though!!

I also think [name_u]Marion[/name_u] is a beautiful alternative if you’re still exploring options. Good luck and sorry about your grandmother.

I love [name_f]Mary[/name_f] and most of it’s other forms ([name_u]Marian[/name_u], [name_u]Meredith[/name_u], [name_f]Miriam[/name_f]). Despite it being a very popular name at one point, now it is flying under the radar as a classic, easily spelled/pronounced, unique name with tons of great history.

[name_f]Mary[/name_f] is very sweet and refreshing to me. It definitely falls into the “uncommon but familiar” name category that seems so popular these days. I’m from the southeastern US where double barreled [name_f]Mary[/name_f] names are quite popular usually as a way to incorporate on honor name (i.e. want to honor your grandmother [name_f]Alice[/name_f] so you name your daughter [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Alice[/name_f]), but I rarely meet a [name_f]Mary[/name_f] who doesn’t go by both names. [name_f]Mary[/name_f] as a stand alone seems like a breath of fresh air [name_f]IMO[/name_f].
