I adore the name [name]Mary[/name], although I can’t say I like it’s meaning- bitter.
I’m worried that [name]Mary[/name] might be too outdated. What do you think?
I want a vintage, classic name and i’m open to suggestions. Any thoughts?
Thank you and [name]HAPPY[/name] THANKSGIVING!
It’s not out dated to me, but it’s boring as ever to me personally. I like other variants like [name]Marie[/name], [name]Maria[/name], [name]Mara[/name]. I don’t like the meaning either, so that’s why I wouldn’t use the other variants.
I probably would have thought so a few years ago, until I met a girl a couple of years younger than me named [name]Mary[/name]. Now I can’t wait to meet a toddler with the name. I do not, however, like it as the first part of a double barrel - it seems to diminish the weight of the name.
It’s very classic and sweet, and while may people may fit the name or like it, but for me (my name is [name]Mary[/name]) I have never liked having the name. I’ve met other [name]Marys[/name] who fit the name better or who don’t mind it, but just speaking from personal experience, it’s not a very fun name to have. I often wish my parents would have given me a name that was a bit more modern or unique. And happy thanksgiving to you!
I wouldn’t use it but I don’t think it’s too dated to be used. I rather like it actually.
[name]Mara[/name] and [name]Marie[/name] (only as a FN, [name]Marie[/name] as a middle does nothing for me) go on and off my own list.
The meaning doesn’t bother me, especially in a case of a name with as much mystery of its meaning as [name]Mary[/name]/[name]Miriam[/name]. It’s not a very clearcut meaning of “bitter” except in the case of [name]Mara[/name]. Which, as you can see, hasn’t kept me from liking [name]Mara[/name] anyway.
I agree with the others that it’s somewhere between a fresh choice again or a lovely classic that never went out of style. I’m also with @east93 that it feels a bit too boring for me to use, personally, but I would love to see someone else use it.
I met the cutest little girl at work a week or two ago, though, and her name was [name]Mary[/name]-[name]Grace[/name], she was so adorable! So I really love the idea of a refreshing double-barrel [name]Mary[/name] name. I think something like [name]Mary[/name]-[name]Fleur[/name], [name]Mary[/name]-[name]Liv[/name], [name]Mary[/name]-[name]Shea[/name], [name]Mary[/name]-[name]Pearl[/name], [name]Mary[/name]-[name]Claire[/name], etc. would all be lovely, refreshing spins on [name]Mary[/name], too. Although I have to say [name]Mary[/name]-[name]Grace[/name] is my favorite.
In my opinion [name]Mary[/name] is a classic, if somewhat heavy name. My son has both a [name]Maryanna[/name] and a [name]Mary[/name]-[name]Afton[/name] in his kindergarten class, and I think making it a double-barrel really helps to make [name]Mary[/name] feel somehow lighter and easier to wear.
No, it isn’t outdated, [name]IMO[/name]. In fact, I think it sounds significantly fresher than [name]Catherine[/name] or [name]Elizabeth[/name], which get plenty of love.
As a ‘[name]Mary[/name]’ combo, I will offer up [name]Jane[/name]-[name]Mary[/name]; I knew a [name]Jane[/name]-[name]Mary[/name] growing up, and I [name]LOVE[/name] this name.
But I can tell you, being a [name]Mary[/name] myself, I always wondered why there weren’t more of us. I think it’s due for a comeback! I love my name. I think it’s pretty, sweet, and simple. It’s girly, but can fit a tomboy. It’s short, but significant. Plus, it’s rememberable. People always remember my name first.
