[name]Maxwell[/name] was at the top of my list for the next boy. But I don’t like androgynous names for my children. A celebrity recently named a daughter [name]Maxwell[/name]. Now [name]Jessica[/name] [name]Simpson[/name] is supposedly naming her daughter that. Is it becoming a unisex name? I’m baffled by this.
Wow…I didn’t realize [name]Maxwell[/name] was a gender bender. [name]IMO[/name] [name]Maxwell[/name] is a very strong & masculine name and will always be. Our #1 boy name for our baby due in [name]May[/name] was [name]Maxwell[/name], turned out she will be [name]Stella[/name]. If our next child is a boy we were still thinking [name]Maxwell[/name] as a sibset…[name]Max[/name] & [name]Stella[/name]. Interesting to see what happens…
I think [name]Maxwell[/name] will continue to be VERY boyish for quite some time. I don’t think it has the softer, sort of surnamey appeal of some names that are making the crossover; I wouldn’t worry about it. (It will also avoid unisex-land if boy parents continue to use it…)
To me it’s definitely not a unisex name. Unisex names are these typical surnames like [name]Taylor[/name] or [name]Skyler[/name]. Trendy names. Classical boy names are weird for girls. So no, I don’t think it will cross the line, it just sounds ridiculous on a girl…
Its very much a boy name to me! Naming a girl [name]Maxwell[/name] is akin to naming a girl [name]William[/name]…strange. I don’t think you need to worry about your son sharing the name with female classmates
Had to Google [name]Jessica[/name] [name]Simpson[/name] after you posted…seems as though [name]Maxwell[/name] is a family name on her husbands side and they plan on calling her [name]Maxi[/name]. [name]Don[/name]'t see the name [name]Maxwell[/name] being emasculated by [name]Jessica[/name] [name]Simpson[/name].
Oh, I hope it doesn’t become unisex!
[name]Maxwell[/name] is a very masculine name. Use it without fear.
[name]Maxwell[/name] is masculine and I can only think of it on a boy!
I have a new nephew named [name]Maxwell[/name].
Other great alternatives which have the nn [name]Max[/name] are [name]Maxim[/name], [name]Maximus[/name], [name]Maximilian[/name], [name]Magnus[/name], [name]Maddox[/name]
[name]Maxwell[/name] is still very masculine, also the source for the [name]Jessica[/name] [name]Simpson[/name] story is In Touch so I would take it with a grain of salt but you never know. I just cant imagine her “copying” another celeb by using a name so distinctive for a girl when someone else just used it themselves.
This name doesn’t even have a hint of femininity to me. When I heard this is what she wants to name her girl… yuck. Not a fan at all. I like it for a boy and only a boy.
The whole [name]Maxwell[/name] on a girl thing baffles me–and not baffle like [name]Bailey[/name] or [name]Elliot[/name] on a girl! I mean, [name]Bailey[/name] and [name]Elliot[/name] are 100% masculine to me, but I can kind of see where it comes from, and it’s used frequently enough that I can kind of understand it. But [name]Maxwell[/name]? [name]Maxwell[/name]?! That’s like naming your son [name]Annabella[/name]… it just blows my mind. I think [name]Maxwell[/name] will continue to be masculine for a very long time, and I hope that after this year, all the female Maxwells will die down. A lot.
Of course it is! I would definitely say its stylish and totally usable.
PS I’ve never heard of [name]Maxwell[/name] for a girl and think its a totally ridiculous on a girl. Its all boy and I think people will continue to see it that way. Very masculine name.
Absurd! I agree, [name]Maxwell[/name] is very masculine. We are naming our son [name]Maxwell[/name], so I also hope that there isn’t some weirdo unisex trend going on with the name.
