I’ve been falling hard for a suggested name for us, Miette. I like it in both the middle and first name spots…I can’t decide which I like better. What do you think of Miette? Where do you like it the most?

Haha, crumb is not so bad - [name_f]Melena[/name_f] and [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] have far worse meanings. But yeah, I guess I wouldn’t want my name to mean Crumb. I love the sound of Miette though, and see it is used as a baby name.
lol! I agree. I really don’t see the appeal, but then again, it’s the nn my best friend used for her daughter (her real name is Avélaine). And since I have talked to my best friend (and her sister) numerous times about cutesy [name_m]French[/name_m] nns like this (she and her sister were/are [name_f]Fleurette[/name_f] and [name_f]Alouette[/name_f], which are also not taken seriously as legitimate names there), and while they are all for it as a nn for Avélaine, they seem to think it’s pretty ludicrous as a given name (I’m not sure what nicer word I could use here, haha. They’re very vocally against it when I have told them that Americans–and other English-speakers–like the idea of actually putting Miette on the birth certificate!). I mean, [name_f]Mia[/name_f] and [name_f]Etta[/name_f] are cute nns, but I definitely wouldn’t use Miette to get to it. If you have to use it, I would definitely put it in the MN spot. I also agree that the meaning of miette isn’t that flattering, haha, either.

Miette - It’s ok…I think the crumb meaning would certainly not be common knowledge here in the US so I wouldn’t let that completely stand in the way.
I personally think Miel, which is [name_m]French[/name_m] for honey, is more becoming…maybe spelled as Miele or Mielle. But some will still view it as too cutesy or insubstantial. I hear the same criticisms of [name_f]Cosette[/name_f] which I think is a beautiful name.
I certainly like the sound of Miette in the middle, despite the meaning. I read somewhere that it’s used as a term of endearment for children. I’m not [name_m]French[/name_m] so don’t quote me on that. Frankly people have put stranger words as a middle, but knowing it means crumb takes it out of first name place for me.

Miette does mean crumb, but also little one, tiny thing, etc. It’s a nickname given to [name_m]French[/name_m] children like [name_u]Boo[/name_u], Kiddo, Squirt, etc. is in [name_u]America[/name_u]. So, I have no problem with the crumb association. It’s more often used in [name_m]French[/name_m] phrases than on its own, and even more often used a term of endearment for children, as said above. I may just stick it in the middle name spot, however, I have come up with some combos that I love with it in the first name spot…
