We are 6 months away from baby #2 and all over the map with names. Not knowing yet boy or girl is of course making it twice as difficult.
Yesterday’s celebrity namesake was [name]Miranda[/name] [name]July[/name], an artist that I hugely admire. Ooh, I thought, what a great name. I mentioned it to my BFF though and first thing she said was “Sex and the City” and fffft there went the wind from my sails.
For me the name brings up [name]Miranda[/name] from the [name]Tempest[/name] and the aforementioned Ms. [name]July[/name]. What do you think?
Other names we like include:
Boys
[name]Owen[/name]
[name]Joachim[/name]
[name]Harrison[/name] (after Beatle [name]George[/name])
[name]Augustin[/name] (baby is due in [name]August[/name])
Girls
[name]Uma[/name] (daughter of the Himalayas, consort of [name]Shiva[/name])
[name]Lucia[/name] or Lucienn (light)
[name]Nora[/name]
[name]Kaia[/name] (form of [name]Gaia[/name], earth goddess)
I would love to hear your input, thanks!!
Btw, my son is [name]Everett[/name] [name]James[/name] if that helps.
[name]Everett[/name] and [name]Miranda[/name] are amazing together! Too sex in the city? Seriously, has she not been watching [name]Charlotte[/name] sky rocket in popularity? I really dont think something as a silly as a TV show (which isnt even in production anymore) needs to influece your name choices. Off your boys list I love [name]Harrison[/name]. [name]Everett[/name] and [name]Harrison[/name] are so handsome together.
I don’t think [name]Miranda[/name] is too SATC at all. (Although I never watched it that much so maybe that’s why.) I just finished reading the book When You Reach Me, which is about a girl named [name]Miranda[/name], so that’s my main association with the name right now.
Not at all. When I read the title of the post, I wasn’t sure what SATC stood for; and even after you said it, it took me a minute to get the association. I didn’t watch the show, so that may be the reason I don’t immediately see the connection. But seriously, if I met a little girl named [name]Miranda[/name], SATC wouldn’t come to mind at all. (I actually think of [name]Miranda[/name] [name]Richardson[/name].) It’s a very good name and [name]Everett[/name] and [name]Miranda[/name] are great together.
Not at all! I think [name]Miranda[/name] is one of those rare names that isn’t too common or rare. It’s classy, easy to say and spell, and unlikely to ever cause confusion. It’s a great name and the kind most parents are looking for.
I don’t think so at all! [name]Miranda[/name] is just the right amount of familiar (so SATC is not the only reference people have with it) and unusual (so it hasn’t become invisible due to overuse). I love [name]Everett[/name] and [name]Miranda[/name]!
I say go for it! I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Miranda[/name]. (I’m not familiar with SATC at all, and didn’t know what the acronym stood for, at first.) The first thing I think of when I hear the name is the [name]Shakespeare[/name] reference, and then [name]Miranda[/name] [name]Otto[/name], the actress who played [name]Eowyn[/name] in The [name]Lord[/name] of the Rings (because I used to be an obsessed LotR fan).
I want to name a son [name]Adrian[/name] someday, even though my husband and I love the show Monk… I don’t think TV shows should make names off-limits (unless the character is a well-known villain or something). I am not much of a TV-watcher, though.
From your other ideas, I also really like [name]Owen[/name], [name]Harrison[/name], [name]Lucia[/name], and [name]Nora[/name].
I am a HUGE SATC fan, and I honestly didn’t even think about SATC until you mentioned it. [name]Even[/name] if people made that association, it isn’t a bad one. [name]Miranda[/name] is a smart and strong character. But it definitely isn’t too SATC at all – I don’t think of SATC when I hear [name]Charlotte[/name] or [name]Carrie[/name] or [name]Samantha[/name], either!
I love the name, and [name]Everett[/name] and [name]Miranda[/name] are swoon-worthy!
[name]Miranda[/name] makes me think of The [name]Tempest[/name], too, even though I’m a dedicated TV-watcher.
My best friend growing up was named [name]Maranda[/name] (not a typo, her mother literally misspelt her name by accident).
Of course, there are also the [name]Miranda[/name] Rights (You have the right to remain silent, if you choose to give up this right anything you say can and will be used against you in court. You have a right to an attorney . . . ) which could be a positive or negative association depending on your perspective.
I also love [name]Harrison[/name], especially due to the namesake.
I never watched SATC, but that was the first thing I thought of with this name. The second thing I thought of was the [name]Tempest[/name]. That being said, I didn’t care. And I don’t think you should either. I [name]LOVE[/name] the name and [name]Everett[/name] and [name]Miranda[/name] sound great together. [name]Harrison[/name] and [name]Everett[/name] sound great, too.
Thanks everyone for the replies. I’m glad to hear that the tv show doesn’t immediately spring to mind - it didn’t for me. We have a long time still to decide but [name]Miranda[/name] will def stay on the list. I’d love any other suggestions based on the original list too.
Btw I mentioned [name]Harrison[/name] to my son who is 5 and I said, “and we can call him [name]Harry[/name]” - well the kid busted up laughing for about 10 minutes at the thought of his little bro being “Hairy”! I think he still thinks I was joking. And when I told him that the prince of [name]England[/name] was named [name]Harry[/name] he practically fell out of his chair. So I guess that one is out ;).
I was an art major and my first thought was [name]Miranda[/name] [name]July[/name]. I don’t think it’s too much SATC. but i never watched the show. I wouldn’t let it bother you though. I agree with the pp about the name [name]Charlotte[/name].
[name]Everett[/name] and [name]Miranda[/name] are fab together.
this is my daughters name and I’ve never given SATC a second thought. Everyone always compliments us on her name. I’ve never watched SATC so that might influence me a bit, but realistically I don’t think your daughter (or mine!) would be affected negatively by a tv show that is basically washed up now, before your daughter has even been born. Its just a tv show and its a great name I’d strongly recommend you use it if you like it, it has been the absolute perfect name for our daughter, she’s 5 now and we’re still so happy we named her [name]Miranda[/name] No one has ever even mentioned the SATC connection since she has been born.
It’s only SATC if you have another daughter and name her [name]Charlotte[/name], [name]Carrie[/name] or [name]Samantha[/name], so just remember that those names are pretty unusable if you choose [name]Miranda[/name].
That being said, it is a lovely name, and though there was a SATC character named this, there are some other Mirandas to look at. SATC probably won’t be as popular when your daughter gets older, whereas [name]Shakespeare[/name] will always be known.
Also, if you name your daughter [name]Miranda[/name], SHE will be the immediate connotation for that name, not [name]Miranda[/name] [name]Hobbes[/name].
Wholeheartedly second everyone’s opinions on [name]Miranda[/name] here! : D.
Interesting you like [name]Uma[/name] - to me, [name]Uma[/name] is VERY [name]Uma[/name] [name]Thurman[/name], much more so than [name]Miranda[/name] is SATC or anything else, you could still do it of course : D, it’ll just be a strong association for some people. I do think [name]Everett[/name] and [name]Miranda[/name] is a better match, probably the best match of your girls’ names currently.
From your boys I really like [name]Everett[/name] and [name]Owen[/name] quite a lot, but all would be fine.
