I’m just curious. What do you think about [name]Narnia[/name]?
I tried to convince my mother to name my brother Aslan when I was five. She declined.
I would still name a boy [name]Edmund[/name]. But I wouldn’t name a child of either gender [name]Narnia[/name].
I can’t separate it from the books.
Being a bit cheeky: Sounds like [name]Nadia[/name], but with a speech impediment.
So I guess that’s a ‘no’ from me.
I would have to say no also. I love the books, and the idea, but it is a bit too on the nose for my tastes. There are a lot of good names in the books though.
A no from me, too. Far too connected to the books for at least another 10-20 years.
Absolutely not usable. It is not “too connected to the books.” It is a made-up place that is ONLY in the books.
I have to say no as well. I immediately think of the books, and truthfully, I’m not crazy about how it sounds.
I would have to agree…no to [name]Narnia[/name]!
[name]Narnia[/name] as a name? No way.
Using names FROM [name]Narnia[/name]: Acceptable.
A middle name maybe but I’d rather use [name]Peter[/name], [name]Susan[/name], [name]Edmund[/name] and [name]Lucy[/name]!
Ridiculous. [name]Nadia[/name] would be gorgeous though.
I think using [name]Narnia[/name] would be going just a bit too far. I love the [name]Narnia[/name] books as well, but using something so obvious seems more like an advertisement for the books rather than christening an actual human being. Names FROM the [name]Narnia[/name] series seem fine though as it seems like a more subtle way to pay homage to the [name]Narnia[/name] books.
I agree with everyone else. [name]Narnia[/name] (the place and the name) was invented by C. S. [name]Lewis[/name]. I absolutely love the series, though. There are some great names from it. Obviously, [name]Peter[/name], [name]Susan[/name], [name]Edmund[/name], and [name]Lucy[/name]. For the more adventurous, there’s also [name]Caspian[/name], [name]Shasta[/name], [name]Cor[/name], [name]Corin[/name], [name]Aravis[/name], [name]Rilian[/name], [name]Cornelius[/name], Digory, [name]Polly[/name], and more.
Well, I absolutely love the series and have tried to make [name]Peter[/name] or [name]Caspian[/name] work in honor of it, but I agree with the others–[name]Narnia[/name] just isn’t as usable as other choices like [name]Peter[/name], [name]Susan[/name], [name]Edmund[/name], [name]Lucy[/name], [name]Caspian[/name], and maybe even something a bit more out-there, like Aslan, the Professor’s aunt and uncle (his aunt was [name]Letty[/name]/[name]Lettie[/name], which I think is pretty usable, although I wouldn’t use the full name, [name]Letitia[/name]…), Digory, [name]Polly[/name], [name]Eustace[/name], [name]Jill[/name]/[name]Jillian[/name], etc.
No, I don’t think it works.
I agree-- maybe as a middle name, but too hard for a first name-- it’s like naming a boy [name]Harry[/name] [name]Potter[/name] these days.
Definitely agree with this. I got the name [name]Edmund[/name] from The [name]Lion[/name], The Witch, and the Wardrobe when my English teacher read that to the class in grade 3.
If it’s the sound of [name]Narnia[/name] you like, I’d look in to something along the lines of [name]Claudia[/name], [name]Nadia[/name], [name]Natalie[/name], or [name]Mari[/name]. If you like the connection to the books, I’d go with a name from the series instead.
Hmm. It sounds nice and name-y, but it’s inseparable from the books, and what if a girl called [name]Narnia[/name] reads said books and doesn’t like them? [name]Nadia[/name] is a very nice alternative, and the names of characters from [name]Narnia[/name] (except maybe Aslan - too connected to the books again. But I like the similar [name]Aston[/name]!)
Also, what with [name]Narnia[/name] being in a wardrobe (I think they call it a “closet” in [name]America[/name]? [name]Do[/name] they?) and all, I foresee a [name]Narnia[/name] being subject to some ‘[name]Seven[/name] Minutes In [name]Heaven[/name]’ jokes (yikes!) when she’s a teenager and older.
So, [name]IMO[/name], it’s unusable, but not terrible.
Terrible, [name]IMO[/name]
