Is Niall too geeky or old-man?

Ok, so we’re still working on our boy options here in case it turns out our twins are boy/ boy. We really love [name]Felix[/name] [name]Peter[/name] for one of them , but I’m wondering if [name]Niall[/name] is completely odd with it… does it sound like a crusty old man or a nerd? DH suggested it, so I thought I’d bring it to the berries. The middle name would probably be [name]Gray[/name].

Other possibilities for a pairing would be [name]Maxwell[/name], [name]Robert[/name],or [name]Isaac[/name].

Thoughts? Suggestions?

I like it and I think it is uncommon enough not to suggest any Particular generation. For ‘old man’ I think [name]Terry[/name], [name]Kenneth[/name] or [name]Walter[/name]. I’d put it in the same classic category as [name]Myles[/name].

I don’t think [name]Niall[/name] is old man or nerdy at all! Quite the opposite in fact- I don’t know of any Nialls older than about 20. Isn’t there a [name]Niall[/name] in The Wanted or [name]One[/name] Direction? [name]One[/name] of those boy bands that tweens love? That gives it a modern, current vibe. Anyhow, it seems very fresh and modern to me- a lovely match with [name]Felix[/name] [name]Peter[/name] (which is gorgeous!). Only thing I’m not sure on is the middle name. I don’t think [name]Gray[/name] goes too well with [name]Niall[/name]. [name]Maxwell[/name] [name]Gray[/name] would be my suggestion from your names.

For other pairings with [name]Felix[/name]: [name]Tristan[/name], [name]Hugo[/name], [name]Oscar[/name], [name]Dexter[/name], [name]Milo[/name], [name]Leo[/name], [name]Edmund[/name], [name]Oliver[/name], [name]Jonas[/name], [name]Daniel[/name], [name]Sebastian[/name], [name]Morgan[/name], [name]Reuben[/name], [name]Jasper[/name], [name]Julian[/name]

Thanks! [name]Gray[/name] is a family name, so we wanted to use it with one of the boys since [name]Peter[/name] is my husband’s name and we don’t want the other one to feel left out… Would it be better to switch them, do you think, or perhaps go with a different family name like [name]Robert[/name] or [name]Charles[/name]?

[name]Niall[/name] is wonderful! It doesn’t sound old or “crusty” to me. It sounds very fresh and handsome actually. I think [name]Gray[/name] sounds awesome as the middle name, it adds to the spunky feel of your other choices. [name]Felix[/name] [name]Peter[/name] is very handsome and [name]Niall[/name] [name]Gray[/name] sounds very cool for his twin brother. [name]Felix[/name] and [name]Niall[/name]; very nice set.

[name]Maxwell[/name] or [name]Isaac[/name] would also fit very well with [name]Felix[/name], but I don’t think [name]Robert[/name] would. [name]Robert[/name] does sound a bit old and nerdy to me. [name]Maxwell[/name] and [name]Isaac[/name] are fresh and cute, like [name]Felix[/name]. However, I actually do like [name]Niall[/name] the best and think it goes the best with [name]Felix[/name] [name]Peter[/name]. And if your hubby likes it then that’s all the better.

Good luck to you.

[name]Niall[/name] is the opposite of crusty. A member of [name]One[/name] Direction is named [name]Niall[/name] Horan, which definetly gives it a fresher feel and also means most people would know how to spell and pronounce [name]Niall[/name]. [name]Niall[/name] [name]Grey[/name] and [name]Felix[/name] [name]Peter[/name] would be adorable twins to meet

No. [name]Niall[/name] is cool.

I really love this name. It was on our short list if we were having a boy.
I don’t find it old man or nerdy in the least.
The problem is more on the pronunciation side here in the US…

[name]Niall[/name] [name]Gray[/name] sounds great together!

It’s the name of one of the members of [name]One[/name] Direction, and he’s only 19, so no, it’s not old-man sounding at all. Most people would know how to pronounce it if you want it to be pronounced like [name]Nile[/name], for that very reason.

I love [name]Niall[/name] and it would be on my list if it wasn’t so close to [name]Niles[/name] and people mistake my sons name [name]Nils[/name] for [name]Niles[/name] pretty constantly. Makes me think of the actor [name]Niall[/name] Matter who is smoking hot.

Nope, not at all! It is an old name, as in, it’s been used for a long time, but when I hear it I think of [name]Niall[/name] from [name]One[/name] Direction as I’m guessing quite a few other people will too. So it’s not crusty or old-man, but people might think that’s where you got the name from, if that bothers you at all. On the upside, people will probably now know how to pronounce and spell it.

[name]Niall[/name] [name]Gray[/name] is cool and it sounds great with [name]Felix[/name] [name]Peter[/name].

I was just talking to my dad about how all the swedish names in my family get butchered by us Americans! [name]One[/name] of those names is [name]Nils[/name] too.

Anyway, I think [name]Niall[/name] is an awesome name and I think [name]Gray[/name] goes really well in the middle spot. Good choice

Not geeky or “old man” at all! And honestly, [name]Niall[/name] and [name]Felix[/name] seem like a perfect twin set!! Are you by chance in the UK? These names feel very British to me and the only two Nialls I’ve met (or known of) have been British. [name]Just[/name] a heads up, though, if he’s ever in the US, he will probably get “[name]Neal[/name]” a fair amount. I worked with a (British) [name]Niall[/name], and he got “[name]Neal[/name]” all the time, which is unfortunate because [name]Niall[/name] sounds so much lovelier and fresher than “[name]Neal[/name]”. Thought I should mention it, but it wouldn’t stop me from using it (and I’m in the States). For me, the corrections would be worth it to have such a great name.

I actually knew a wonderful guy from [name]Africa[/name] named Nhial. I’ve always loved that name.

I’m American, but my husband is English and we live in [name]London[/name]. I know what you mean about the confusion over pronunciation–‘[name]Nile[/name]’ actually is the English mis-pronunciation of the Irish spelling of [name]Neal[/name]… That said, the shifted pronunciation so common here that I think most people would call him [name]Nile[/name] if they saw that spelling, which would be our intent. Everyone I know with that name pronounces it the newer way.

I don’t think [name]Niall[/name] is geeky or old at all - its very handsome, and [name]Niall[/name] [name]Grey[/name] is lovely. Not a huge fan of [name]Felix[/name] (all I can think of is that old cartoon [name]Felix[/name] the cat), but [name]Felix[/name] & [name]Niall[/name] sound great as brothers.

I love [name]Niall[/name]! Handsome, strong, phonetically simple…a clear winner!

[name]Niall[/name] is full of Irish charm to me. I think [name]Neil[/name], yes, is dated, but [name]Niall[/name] (when prn [name]Nile[/name] like the river) is rather handsome. I don’t think it pairs well with the mn [name]Gray[/name] though - [name]Niall[/name] [name]Graham[/name] or [name]Niall[/name] [name]Grayson[/name] might be better.

I think [name]Niall[/name] [name]Gray[/name] is wonderful! Also great with [name]Felix[/name].

I much prefer [name]Niall[/name]. It makes me think of like old medieval sort of times and I think it is so masculine… Not crusty or old man at all.
