Is Norbert really a geek forever?

I always have a significant amount of trouble finding boy’s names that I like, and when I do find some, they are usually very similar to the point that they would not work in a sibset. Lately, I’ve been crushing on [name]Norbert[/name] (right now only for a middle name) and I was perusing the Nameberry lists when I discovered this one;

Which of course, contained [name]Norbert[/name], and so did this list;

Plus the name description did it absolutely no justice.

Is [name]Norbert[/name] really that uncool?
And if not, what nicknames could you use other than [name]Bert[/name]?

Not pregnant, just thinking about names.

I don’t really associate [name]Norbert[/name] with nerdiness, mostly because that name reminds me of The Angry Beavers (90s Nickelodeon show).

Well, I just watched the first [name]Harry[/name] [name]Potter[/name] movie again last night, so obviously it’s a dragon’s name. :slight_smile:

That said, it’s certainly not a name you’d associate with the coolest kid in school, but that’s not the end of the world. As for nicknames, [name]Bertie[/name] would be my favourite. I can’t think of any other except Norb or [name]Norbie[/name], none of which are that cool.

I haven’t watched [name]Harry[/name] [name]Potter[/name] in ages, but the name [name]Norbert[/name] immediately makes me think of dragons too! I actually kind of like that it reminds me of [name]Harry[/name] [name]Potter[/name], though.

I don’t think it’s attractive at all. [name]Norman[/name] feels much more usable.

See, I hear [name]Norman[/name] and immediately think [name]Norman[/name] [name]Bates[/name] haha!

I think [name]Norbert[/name] is definitely useable, and its generally not a person’s name that determines whether they’ll be a geek. It might be a bit of a stretch, but I could see [name]Noble[/name] as a nickname for [name]Norbert[/name]?

[name]Norbert[/name] screams ‘hipster’ to me.

All -bert names are nerdy to me.

[name]Norbert[/name] is so far off the bubble it seems trying to come back, as stephanie said, it has a hipster quality to it. A would-you-believe-it quality that puts it beyond “normal geekiness” if you will. I could see a rockstar naming his kid [name]Norbert[/name] for that reason.

As a middle name it seems pretty harmless.

I actually might like [name]Norman[/name] even less. It does remind me of Psycho and [name]Rose[/name] Madder and the horror genre in general.
