We would [name]LOVE[/name] to name our baby girl [name]Piper[/name] - we decided on that name a long time back because we love the wonderful theologian, [name]John[/name] [name]Piper[/name]. However, we never counted on the name taking off in popularity. We have just heard of 2 other babies in our area being named [name]Piper[/name]. Any thoughts?
There is also a famous actresses with the name too, [name]Piper[/name] Perabo. And there was a TV show with one of the characters having the same name. It’s too popular for me to even consider.
[name]PIPER[/name]
Gender: F
Origin: English occupational name
Meaning: “pipe or flute player”
Popularity in 2009: #147
A bright, musical name that’s jumped five hundred places in about five years; popular with celebrities.
Hmm… Personally, if I met two little Pipers, I would think that it’s too common, but it would depend on where you live and what you consider to be “too popular”…
Instead of [name]Piper[/name], what about [name]Harper[/name], [name]Fifer[/name], [name]Juniper[/name], [name]Philippa[/name], [name]Poppy[/name], or [name]Penelope[/name]? If you want to honor [name]John[/name] [name]Piper[/name], you could also use [name]Johanna[/name], [name]Joanna[/name], or [name]Jane[/name]…
Good luck!
Had to reply to this one, as [name]Piper[/name] has been my favourite name for the past 6 years or so!
Luckily, I live in the UK and its not at all popular over here… but if it suddenly shot up to the number 1 spot I’d absoloutely still use it!
As far as I’m aware its currently within the top 200 in [name]America[/name]. If you love the name, don’t take it off your list simply due to popularity. Popularity doesn’t have to be a negative thing…it just means that other people out there appreciate the beauty of the name. You may regret not using it later on down the line.
Very common and it doesn’t age well. It reminds me of smoking anything especially pipes. Which reminds me of the bad sent of both actions. [name]Piper[/name] means someone who plays the pipe. Its a proffesion and hobbie. Why name your child that?
I am debating this right now, too. I am due in 4 weeks (boy or girl surprise, so this may not be an issue). I like the sound of [name]Piper[/name] in general and with my surname, and I also like the small plane connection for my pilot husband. But I already felt it was too popular, and now with the results for 2009 out I feel even more that way!
I live in NY I don’t know any Pipers but my single, childless friend who lives in Minnesota (home of [name]John[/name] [name]Piper[/name], no?) told me not to name my baby that, it’s just too common. And usually people who aren’t in the process of naming babies don’t really know what’s becoming popular, so that scared me off of it a bit.
This is totally the feedback that I needed to hear. Thanks everyone!
My friend’s sister named her second girl [name]Piper[/name] (older sister named [name]Saint[/name]). Then a couple months later my husband hears it somewhere and falls in love with it. And today at Zumba he meets a 5 month old named [name]Piper[/name] and jumps to introduce her to me giving me a significant look. So for now we know two. [name]How[/name] is it that I don’t know a singel girls named [name]Chloe[/name] but I know 2 Pipers?
