As I work on developing a character I need to name her and I love the name Primrose, but it sounds very happy and bright, which the character really isn’t. It also might be too connected to the Hunger Games character? Primrose Louise LaRue would be her full name. The basic plot is that any female born in August has an ability, determined by your last August ancestor. Primrose and Linnea (the sister) control nature (the most powerful ability as they are the king’s daughters) so I wanted nature names for them. The king hates Augusts and there’s a war happening so that’s where the killing happens. So, is Primrose to peppy and happy for a kind of depressing plot line and story?
I do see [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] as a happy name! I would also advice you against [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] LaRue if you want to stay away from The Hunger Games reference since [name_u]Rue[/name_u] is also an important character of THG.

no I don’t find Primrose too happy. I think Primrose could work for that. I wouldn’t find it too hunger games without the Rue but with the Rue it might be.

Now that I’m thinking about it I like the Hunger Games connection as this [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] also dies at the end. LaRue is just the basic name I thought of and will most likely change because of the sisters’ royalty connection.
Maybe instead of [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] you could use [name_f]Melrose[/name_f]? It sounds slightly less peppy and it flows nicely with LaRue.

Primrose is such a cute name… but Primrose LaRue is very Hunger Games-y, especially since those are Katniss’s sister AND sister-figure’s names…

I think their last name is going to change to Monnet, and I agree about the LaRue name. it’s a shame because I feel it flows very nicely.
Primrose and Rue is too hunger games-y for a book, sorry. I’d go for a different first.
I think that [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] is definitely not too preppy, but I do think the Hunger Game association is very obvious. I think that you could probably get away with [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] if you use her full name or nickname of [name_f]Rose[/name_f], but I would stay away from Prim.
I actually don’t see [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] as peppy. I think of it as a rather serious, pretty name. But I’ve never seen/read Hunger Games, and I still agree that [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] LaRue immediately made me think of it.
