[name]Primrose[/name] is my guilty pleasure but it keeps coming back to me. [name]Do[/name] you berries think it’s usable as first name? If you can, what do you expect [name]Primrose[/name] to be? [name]Both[/name] as a child and an adult. Thanks.
I think it is definitely usable! As a child, I had a hairdresser who was named [name]Primrose[/name]. I would call her by her full name, but she was a friend of my mom, and she called her Prim.
[name]Primrose[/name] is a character in the popular book The Hunger Games, so it might grow a bit in popularity and familiarity now. I admit I thought it was a cool name while reading the book but mind you, it’s science fiction and everyone had unusual names ([name]Katniss[/name], Peeta, etc)
I don’t find the word prim very fortunate for a person. It’s pretty…but I guess, it makes me think of a rose, only even daintier. What if [name]Primrose[/name] is kind of a statuesque, tomboyish girl? I think [name]Rose[/name] is fine for a girl like that, it’s versatile enough, but [name]Primrose[/name] just seems harder. For that matter, since it makes me think small, it’s hard to imagine on an adult. Anyway, it’s certainly not bad, and I’d be appreciative if I met a little [name]Primrose[/name], but my own instinct would be stick with another [name]Rose[/name] name ([name]Primrose[/name] as a nn?), or put [name]Primrose[/name] in the middle, where I think it would be delightful. All best!
Like the above poster mentioned, I think THG reference could help the familiarity of this name, especially when the current teen generation starts having children of their own (I also believe that many HP references will gain popularity). I do think it’s usable, but what if she turns out to be a tomboy? Well, you could say that for tons of names - what about [name]Isabella[/name], the number 1 name in the US? [name]Isabella[/name] is frilly to the max, yet I’m sure their are tons of tomboy Isabellas!
I say go for it
I love [name]Primrose[/name]! I’ve been wondering this myself. I love the nn [name]Posey[/name], and I think [name]Rosie[/name] and [name]Ro[/name] are usable, too… the nns make it more accessible.
My sister (19) just saw this thread, though, and she said, “No way!” lol. This coming from someone who loves [name]Andromeda[/name] for a girl, though, so I’m not sure how reliable that is. I don’t think [name]Andromeda[/name] is any better than [name]Primrose[/name].
Good luck!
I completely agree. And a tomboy could always find nicknames, like [name]Ro[/name].
the name sounds cute, but giving a girl the name ‘prim’ might be tempting fate
lol Taz that’s funny…yeah it’s like naming your kid [name]Chastity[/name]…you’re just asking for trouble! lol.
All I think of is [name]Evening[/name] [name]Primrose[/name] Oil…that is the stuff they tell you to take to make labor start…I am not a fan of it…especially if its in the Hunger Games - that’s gonna be huge popularity wise like bella and edward
I say either go with an adjective OR a noun but not both together for the first name …youre practically forming a sentence
I think [name]Primrose[/name] is a bit much for a first name but it’s be pretty in the middle.
I think [name]Primrose[/name] is a very pretty name whether it’s a first or middle. I have seen birth announcements from [name]England[/name] where the nn was [name]Posy[/name]/[name]Posey[/name] and I think this is pretty too. It reminds me of the [name]Posy[/name] character in the children’s book Ballet Shoes.
