I just found the name Promise in nameberry, and wanna put it in my name list for future daughter.
I find this name unusual and “promising” of course, and it sounds pretty cute to me, but is that name too weird? For in fact I don’t know anyone with this name (not surprising i guess), and word name somehow makes me worried about that.
Also, I wonder what could be the nn for Promise?
Thanks guys
I think the name [name_f]Promise[/name_f] is lovely as a middle name! Potential nicknames can be [name_f]Romi[/name_f], [name_f]Missy[/name_f], [name_u]Issy[/name_u], [name_f]Mimi[/name_f], [name_f]Prue[/name_f]
I think it’s maybe a little much for a fn, but as a mn, it would be so cute! I know a [name_f]Prudence[/name_f], in the same vibe, and she really loves her name!
Creeps me out. All of the Puritan value names do. [name_f]Constance[/name_f], Perseverance, [name_f]Prudence[/name_f]. Also makes me think of promise rings (which are often a misogynist religious practice that girls are pressured into, at least in predominantly southern states in the US)
It works as a middle name, but I’m not sure if I would recommend it as a first name. [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] would be a cute nickname. You may also like [name_f]Pippi[/name_f].
I like it as a middle name. I wouldn’t use it as a first name, but that’s just my preference. I believe Promise is in the US top 1000 so it’s not totally unheard of as a first name. But I can see someone with this name getting a lot of silly puns about it.
I really like [name_f]Promise[/name_f] (though admittedly I prefer it as a middle name). As a first name, it’s nice, but bold and possibly open to a lot of word-play!
Personally, I don’t really like the name, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t a good name. If its a name you’re really set on, I think that [name_f]Ro[/name_f] or [name_f]Mia[/name_f] would be really cute as a nn.
