Is Rebecca too 70s/80s?

What do you think of the name [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f]? To me, it seems like a timeless, classic name, but did the surge of Rebeccas in the 70s and 80s ruin it?

You’re right. I knew a few Rebeccas growing up (I was born in the 90s.) But personally I think because it’s biblical it doesn’t matter as much.

I don’t think so. I know of four…two are in their 40’s (both go by [name_f]Becky[/name_f]), one is about 30 (spelled [name_f]Rebekah[/name_f]…she goes by her whole name or Bekah), the other is around 16 (goes by whole name). I think dismissing a name because it might be “dated” is weird. I rather be one of a name than one of five “[name_f]Bella[/name_f]” (for example).

My sister’s a [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f] of the 90s, so while I always found it pretty tied to my generation, as I’ve heard of and met more Rebeccas, I’ve come to see that it’s more timeless. A lot of friends/people my age have parents named [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f], and [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f] is still being used for little ones! It’s a great name, and I love the nn [name_f]Becca[/name_f]. I think, in that way, it sort of ties in with [name_f]Isabella[/name_f], but less froufrou. I definitely find it timeless. Sort of along the lines of [name_f]Sarah[/name_f], [name_f]Rachel[/name_f], [name_m]Timothy[/name_m], and [name_m]Peter[/name_m]–it might have been used more for one generation than the others surrounding it, but it’s still timeless and is well-used. I would love to meet a little [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f]!

I know Rebeccas in their teens, 20s, 40s and 70s. It’s timeless.

I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f]. To me, it is timeless… a true biblical classic!!

I totally agree about [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f] being Biblical and therefore sort of timeless? I personally find it beautiful, and I think it’s due for a comeback. I think there are a lot of 70s/80s (and even 90s) names that are really gorgeous and are kind of stigmatized for being used frequently (and overused) during those eras but I think, as I said above, a lot of them are due for a comeback.

So, in my opinion, [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f] is fair game. I also like [name_f]Rebekah[/name_f].

I consider [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f] to be a timeless name.

I don’t think you can put a date on it.

My name is [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f] and I dont know why but I have always disliked it. It is not a name the flows out easily. There are several nns for [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f] which I guess is a plus, but none that I have ever been fussed on. Not many people take an adult [name_f]Becky[/name_f] seriously. To me it will always be another dated name like [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f]. It is a fussy name that annoys me…sorry just.my own personal experience

Nah, I think its a great “classic” name as you put it.

[name_m]Even[/name_m] though they’re both biblical and probably as popular as each other, I consider [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f]/[name_f]Rebekah[/name_f] to be timeless whereas [name_f]Rachel[/name_f]/[name_f]Rachael[/name_f] seems tired and very 80s. Hypocritical me!

I do prefer the [name_f]Rebekah[/name_f] spelling.

I get a little bit of a 70’s vibe from it, but it isn’t overwhelming. It is still a timeless name, I know several little girls who bear it.

A beautiful timeless classic!

[name_f]Rebecca[/name_f] is classic. [name_f]Beckie[/name_f]/[name_f]Becky[/name_f]/[name_f]Becca[/name_f] are very dated. It’s the difference between [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] and [name_f]Cathy[/name_f]. I would only use it if I intended to use the whole name or an unusual nickname… maybe Becks?

[name_f]Rebecca[/name_f], while not my favorite, definitely not too 7os/80s

I do think it’s a bit dated. Trends don’t really bother me but having a surge of [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f]'s 20 to 30 years ago may make her feel/seem older. Think if you had a name popular in your mums generation, it might be a nice name but make you sound older. [name_m]Just[/name_m] something to think about. I agree becca is nice

To me, it’s always the [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] du Maurier novel, so although it did peak later it has a 1930s feel to me.

[name_m]Even[/name_m] if it is a bit dated (I don’t think it is) I’d actually prefer that, as she won’t be growing up with a multitude of others named [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f]. I like it.

For the record, the biblical spelling is [name_f]Rebekah[/name_f], if that’s important to you. The more common spelling is [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f].

I think it’s timeless. I know quite a lot of Rebeccas, some are in their teens (a 15 y/o and 18 /yo [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f] come to mind), some are young adults (I know a few in their 20s) and some are mums in their 30-40s. However, I think it’s the same for all biblical names, they do not have a timeframe because they’ve been used excessively for SO long.
