I adore the name [name_u]Remy[/name_u] (for both a boy and girl tbh g) as does FH. Yet I tend to like more ‘substantial’ names with nickname options. [name_f]Romilly[/name_f] was my original full name choice. FH is less of a fan.
So what do you think? Can [name_u]Remy[/name_u]/[name_u]Remi[/name_u] work on its own? If not, what full name do you think works well for the nickname (stretching is fine!)?
Remiel is supposed to be one of the seven archangels, so you could do Remielle for a girl (like [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] becomes [name_f]Gabrielle[/name_f]).
I’m not a huuuge fan of names ending in -Y/I simply because they so often sound like ‘not full names’. But sometimes it can work and [name_u]Remi[/name_u]/[name_u]Remy[/name_u] is probably an example (and I definitely like it a whole lot more than [name_f]Romilly[/name_f]). It’s a bit on the border for me but if you really love it I would say go for it. Maybe with a bit of a ‘fuller sounding’ middle. I do like it best for a boy and pronounced the [name_m]French[/name_m] way, but it works in English as well.
We’ve got a [name_m]Remus[/name_m], a name I obviously love, but we mostly call him by his full name. His friends say [name_u]Remi[/name_u] quite often though. I also like Remigio pronounced the Italian way (re-MEE-jo), but that’s a bit too out there if you’re not Italian obviously haha.
I like [name_u]Remy[/name_u] on its own, though I do personally prefer it on a boy. If [name_u]Romy[/name_u] can work as a standalone, [name_u]Remy[/name_u] definitely can too!
I would say it can’t be a stand alone name on a girl, as it’s a masculine [name_m]French[/name_m] name. Sorry!
I would only use it as a nickname for a girl and go with [name_f]Romilly[/name_f] for example. We also have Remilly in [name_f]France[/name_f], maybe you will like it?
