Is River too girly?

I’m loving [name_u]River[/name_u] for a boy at the moment. I also like it for a girl but I prefer it for a boy. I’m just wondering if it may go to the girls?

I like [name_u]River[/name_u] [name_m]Leo[/name_m]. Any other middle name suggestions?

Thank you!

I don’t think it is too feminine. [name_u]River[/name_u] is a very handsome name, and I think [name_u]River[/name_u] [name_m]Leo[/name_m] is a great combo! I also like it for a girl, since I think it is a great unisex name, but first and foremost I picture it on a boy. It’s on my list, too!

I don’t think so. I personally only like [name_u]River[/name_u] for a boy.

I think that [name_u]River[/name_u] is masculine

It’s a word name, but I don’t think that [name_u]River[/name_u] will get popular enough for girls to be considered female by default. The name is personally NMS, but if you like it for a boy go for it!

I’m more interested in why we feel the need to assign a gender to River. It is a true unisex name.

I’ve only met boys named [name_u]River[/name_u]. But, like others said, there’s nothing inherently feminine or masculine about it, so some people may assume differently.

Thanks for the feedback everybody. As I don’t know the gender, unisex names are on my rader!

I think it’s one of he best true unisex names. That being said, I would only use it on a boy. [name_u]River[/name_u] [name_m]Leo[/name_m] is adorable. I have [name_u]River[/name_u] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] on my list, and I’ve been considering adding [name_u]River[/name_u] [name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m], or [name_u]River[/name_u] [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m].

As others have said, it is definitely a unisex name.
When I hear [name_u]River[/name_u] as a name irl I think of [name_u]River[/name_u] Song off [name_m]Doctor[/name_m] Who, so I would firstly assume female for that reason only, but I wouldn’t be at all surprised to meet a little boy [name_u]River[/name_u]. To me, [name_u]River[/name_u] doesn’t feel or sound more masculine than feminine, or vice versa, it’s a definitive unisex name - and a great one too
