[name_f]Do[/name_f] you consider [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] to be trendy? She was on the U.S. top 1000 from 1900-1988, and has climbed from #832 to #266 since returning in 2009.
I have been loving the name recently, but she doesn’t feel quite as classic and timeless as some of the other names I have been considering. Maybe it’s the -lie ending that seems to be so popular these days. There’s also the connection to the Twillight series that makes me hesitate. What are your thoughts?
I wouldn’t worry about Twilight. I think one could argue that it is both classic but also has the potential to be trendy as well. Time will only tell how popular it will become and how long it will stick around as a popular name. Come to think of it, all of the [name_f]Rose[/name_f] names are trendy. Not saying that’s necessarily a terrible thing though. I would liken it to the name [name_f]Sarah[/name_f]: classic but also somewhat dated. Is that a problem? Depends on your personal perspective.
Depends on your definition of trendy. Has it recently become significantly more popular than it was? Yes. But rank isn’t the only number worth considering, there’s also the actual amount of baby girls given that name, which is 1,184. Among around two million baby girls born in the US every year, that’s not very many Rosalies at all.
I don’t think anyone really remembers Twilight all that much.
note - I am dyscalculic and not good at recognising and repeating numbers so if anyone could make sure I have the number of babies named [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] correct I would appreciate it
My DD is [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]. Everyone has different opinions and perceptions of names. I always thought it was timeless. It ages well and is not popular (in my area, PNW). I’ve only ever gotten compliments on her name (and I know they weren’t lying because I could tell they don’t like her middle name,[name_f]Maeve[/name_f]) and only one person has mentioned Twilight and I know she was just trying to be rude, lol. Everyone always says “Oh! You never hear that name! It’s beautiful.” So, from someone who has a [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f], that is my experience.
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] maintains a steady popularity but I don’t see climbing too high up the charts. And I would not worry about Twilight, the series is one of those fleeting pop culture references that won’t have a long lasting impact on the perception of the name.
I would hope that Twilight is old enough now that we can go back to loving names without the reference. [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] is very sweet, but I don’t think it’s trendy. Apx. 1000 girls out of 2mil isn’t enough a dent. See what happens next year, but I don’t think it has the potential to be mega-trendy.
