My husband likes the name [name]Ryder[/name], he tends to like really masculine sounding names. Theres a couple of nameberry lists that speak to his style i think its ‘names dad like more than moms’ and ‘names kids consider cool’.
While i don’t outright dislike it i do worry that it comes across as trashy, if that makes sense.
Is it on the same lines as [name]Destiny[/name], [name]Crystal[/name], [name]Diamond[/name], [name]Angel[/name] ect?
I think it could go either way. People form my perception more than the name (at least after a first glance). [name]Ryder[/name] is the name of a new character on Glee who I don’t think is trashy at all. That has changed my perception of the name. Before that, I’d imagine [name]Ryder[/name] to be a cowboy kind of guy.
Personally, I would define [name]Ryder[/name] as a “name that tries too hard to be cool and ends up sounding macho”. It’s trendy and all I hear is the term “ride her” so I would classify it as a bit trashy for that reason alone.
While I don’t love [name]Ryder[/name], I wouldn’t call it trashy. It is similar to other word names and surnames that I consider acceptable. It is trendy though. It has a pleasing sound and kind of a rugged cowboy image to it, which I like.
Come on kiwimum we who live south of the equator don’t say trashy! And no [name]Ryder[/name] is fine, a lot better than all the [name]Jaden[/name] style names.
With the [name]Ryder[/name] spelling, yes, it does have a trailer park/white trash feel to it. If you spelled it [name]Rider[/name], then I think it would be fine.
I don’t know that it’s trashy, but it is sort of a cowboy name. Like [name]Maverick[/name], [name]Dakota[/name], [name]Wyatt[/name], [name]Colt[/name], or [name]West[/name]. I think you also have to be careful about what middle and last name you use with that, since [name]Ryder[/name] sounds like a word name. You know, make sure you’re not inadvertently writing a regrettable sentence with his names.
I don’t think [name]Ryder[/name] is trashy. I do however feel that it’s trying a little to hard to be cool.
Oddly I prefer the word name [name]Rider[/name] but nn [name]Rye[/name].
I do agree with previous posters that with the “wrong” accent you might hear “ride her” and that because of that I’d be very careful with middle and LN combos to make sure it’s not awkward or inappropriate in the end.
