[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think [name_m]Skipper[/name_m] is usable as a name? Is it too cutesy? For a combo I’m thinking [name_m]Skipper[/name_m] [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] or [name_m]Skipper[/name_m] [name_f]Amelia[/name_f].
These types of names tend to sound better in an American accent and context. Goes with [name_u]Sailor[/name_u] etc. It wouldn’t work in [name_m]Oz[/name_m] - both the accent and the Kangaroo connotation would be problematic. I think it’s too zippy and fresh to work over a lifetime, but if you’re keen on it, it’s nice with [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] (a consonant starting and non-A ending middle is best).
I think it is too much of a child’s name to work on a grown woman. I mean, as a middle name it would be kinda cute but I have a policy that grown people need grown people names. [name_m]Skipper[/name_m] just doesn’t sound like a grown woman to me.
I love [name_m]Skipper[/name_m] on a little girl! Absolutely [name_f]Adore[/name_f] it! BUT I would personally have it as a middle name that is used by everyone, and have another name she can choose to use if she wants to, for school, work, etc. I have a friend who called her daughter [name_f]Pixie[/name_f], ([name_f]Annabella[/name_f] [name_f]Pixie[/name_f]) she is known to everyone as [name_f]Pixie[/name_f] but she answers to both names and she now decides who she wants to be. I think that’s really cool.
I much prefer [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_m]Skipper[/name_m] or [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] [name_m]Skipper[/name_m], if you really like that name. It would also be a cute nickname, but I don’t think a kid should have it as a first name. I cannot see it growing up well.
I love [name_m]Skipper[/name_m], but I would only do it as a middle. Something like [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_m]Skipper[/name_m] “[name_m]Skipper[/name_m]” could be cute.
Not usable as a first name. The two major associations with that name are [name_f]Barbie[/name_f]'s sister and the [name_m]Alan[/name_m] [name_m]Hale[/name_m] character on Gilligan’s Island, and I just can’t see a grown woman being taken seriously with it. Use it as a nickname or maybe middle if you want.
I really like [name_m]Skipper[/name_m], I think I might have made a thread about it a couple of years ago, but I don’t think it’s very usable. I’d only use it as a pet name.
Not for me, I’m afraid. I don’t have a problem with the more mainstream occupational names like [name_u]Sailor[/name_u], [name_u]Harper[/name_u] and [name_u]Piper[/name_u], but [name_m]Skipper[/name_m] just feels so “wordy” to me, and too informal for a full name. I can certainly see the appeal (it would be a super cute nickname), but [name_m]Skipper[/name_m] is not something I’d like to be called officially, nor could I really picture it working on anyone I know. But perhaps you move in quirkier circles!
Makes me think of the [name_m]Skipper[/name_m] doll and the [name_m]Skipper[/name_m] on Gilligan’s Island. Not suitable as a given name, but cute as a nn.
