Yesterday when we were talking with my mom, I mentioned I really like [name_f]Soleil[/name_f] as a middle name. She immediately pointed out that it reminds her of the name of the Swiss boarding school where I went (BeauSoleil). My mom says everyone would assume I named my child after the school, which is quite weird.
I never really noticed it until yesterday and now I feel like [name_f]Soleil[/name_f] is unusable for me and it makes me sad, because I adore it.
I’m not naming anyone right now, but I’ve been thinking about it all day long today and can’t get it out of my head, so I need your help, berries! Am I overthinking it? Or is it really weird to name someone after a school?
I don’t see a big problem with it as a middle, especially. Either way, the child would be yours, therefore your choice. If people ask, you can always say you never considered that fact, but you love the name reguardless. It is a beautiful name, not something I would use personally, but still lovely. I say go for it!
I don’t think people would automatically assume you named your child after your school – unless it’s something you talk about frequently? Then I think people would assume it’s a coincidence, not an honoring.
I think it’s lovely.
The perk of this french word-name is that it has become familiar through cirque du soleil, at least in the US – making the mispronunciation of it a little less frequent. I have no idea where you are, so that may or may not matter. The other association I have with it is the Cajun band also by the same name as your school, which is very popular in the Southern US and (I like to think) beyond:
I like it. I know a little girl named Zoeliel, nickname [name_f]Zoe[/name_f]. [name_f]Soleil[/name_f] is perfectly usable in my opinion. If you love it, stick with it
@aym and @aj_bear, I think I talk about it as often as people normally talk about their school once they’ve finished it. The name of the school is on my Facebook page, though.
