When I was younger…like 10 years ago I chose a boys name and a girls name that I loved, the girls name being [name]Sunday[/name] [name]Rose[/name].
Then a few years later [name]Nicole[/name] Kidman announced that exact name for her daughter!! I remember my Mum rushing home fromo the shops to tell me when it was announced and I was so annoyed.
The boys name I kept still and when I met my hubby we chose a new girls name…well it was the only one we could agree on, that we both didn’t hate. The name is [name]Cleo[/name] [name]Grace[/name].
When I found out that I was pregnant the name didn’t seem perfect enough for my potential little girl, so I have been searching on here for another girls name. Hubby likes [name]Arabella[/name] - I hate it. I also like [name]Quinn[/name], [name]Hazel[/name] and [name]Gwen[/name], but hubby Vitoed them.
Anyhow I was taking a class today and picked a book to read to the class called ‘[name]Sunday[/name] Chutney’ and I was almost a little teary about the character in the kids book a little girl. Then all my love for the name came back. But there’s a problem, I couldn’t pair it with rose anymore and even of I changed the middle name…would it still be too [name]Nicole[/name] Kidman/[name]Keith[/name] [name]Urban[/name] to use it?
What’s your impression of [name]Sunday[/name]? Does it make you think of them straight away? Or can it be a unique and fun name in its own right?
Im just worried its lost it’s quirk factor, which is why I loved it in the first place.
To be honest, and maybe I’m just not in the loop (though I feel that I am with most celeb baby names), I had no idea that was their daughter’s name. Since they’re not as high-profile anymore, it could be a name that not many people recognize. I could be biased though, because I am in love with [name]Harlow[/name] [name]Winter[/name], and would still use it (if I could persuade DH) despite the [name]Nicole[/name] [name]Ritchie[/name]/[name]Joel[/name] [name]Madden[/name] association.
[name]Sunday[/name] [name]Rose[/name] I immediately associate with the Kidman/[name]Urban[/name]'s, but [name]Sunday[/name] not so much. I don’t mind it, and I say if you like it, use it.
As for middles, I would probably steer clear of nouns (eg. [name]Grace[/name], and [name]Rose[/name]) because that would make the combo seem too wordy.
I disagree that most people wouldn’t make the connection I can tell you that every Aussie around the world will automatically think [name]Nicole[/name] Kidman when they hear [name]Sunday[/name].
Here in Australia we have what we call [name]Sunday[/name] roasts, it is baked lamb and baked vegetables usually eaten on a [name]Sunday[/name], and the combo of [name]Sunday[/name] [name]Rose[/name] became a bit of a laugh here because of this connection and a successful ad campaign with the [name]Tom[/name] [name]Cruise[/name] and sunday roast theme.
So [name]Sunday[/name] has little credibility for me as a genuine name for a daughter I would leave it alone and [name]Rose[/name] has now become dated as a middle name and fresh as a first name.
Why not go for a month name as they seem similar to me in style to people given a name of one of the days of the week. The most popular month names are [name]May[/name] and [name]June[/name], [name]April[/name] is still appreciated, [name]January[/name] nn of [name]Jan[/name] is now considered a viable girl’s name and even [name]November[/name] has been mentioned as a girl’s name.
you will never make everyone happy with a name! If [name]Sunday[/name] [name]Rose[/name] is what you want then I would go for it. It is a beautiful and unique name. There will not be any other kids with that name in school etc so it might be a benefit to have a vague celebrity connections so that it isnt totally foreign to people. In my opinion, if I hadn’t heard the name before, it probably wouldn’t be one that I chose or loved but since I have heard it, I am slightly more familiar with it. Let’s face it, people like things they are more familiar with. I think it sounds like a good choice for you and I doubt you will be happy with anything less. best of luck
I know a boy named [name]Sunday[/name] my own age. He’s very interesting.
I don’t think of [name]Nicole[/name] Kidman when I hear [name]Sunday[/name], because I don’t care to keep up with every celeb baby name. I think it makes a pretty name, and if you’re not pairing it with [name]Rose[/name] then I don’t see the issue. Celebs name their kids all kinds of things and they can’t all be avoided forever. You’re not using her exact combo, there’s no issue.
Hmm, see I am an Aussie too. But I had [name]Sunday[/name] rose picked first! Soooooonot fair. I never thought of [name]Sunday[/name] roast. I would not be using rose as the middle name though, that is yet to be determined.
[name]Sunday[/name] [name]Anne[/name] ?
[name]Sunday[/name] [name]Frances[/name]
[name]Sunday[/name] …??? No idea they are family names and the first to my head.
OK… Since you like [name]Sunday[/name] and really want to use it use it.
You obviously have a great love of the name, and no other name is likely to ever seem as good.
[name]Glad[/name] to hear it is not with [name]Rose[/name]!
[name]Sunday[/name] matches alot of possible middle names. I see a single syllable or a 3+ syllable one working best.
What sort of feel do you want with [name]Sunday[/name]?
Something as spunky? Something contrasting and classic (like your original suggestion of [name]Rose[/name] or new suggestion of [name]Anne[/name])? Something popular?
I think [name]Sunday[/name] is precious, but honestly I agree that for most people [name]Sunday[/name] will bring up thoughts of [name]Nicole[/name] Kidman… Not to say that is bad, I quite like her and [name]Keith[/name] [name]Urban[/name]… So, I guess so what if you used it, and heard a few people say “oh like [name]Nicole[/name] Kidman’s daughter?”… in which you might could reply "well, funny thing is I had the name picked first, she beat me to it… but I have no problems with her anyway "
[name]Sunday[/name] [name]Frances[/name] is so pretty!!!
[name]France[/name]'s is my aunts middle name, I am also thinking [name]Sunday[/name] [name]Catherine[/name] Whitfield…maybe…that’s another family name.
Would spelling it sundae like the ice cream to make it different from [name]Nichole[/name]'s just be pushing the envelope to far. It’s ice cream! But it’s cute…but then would it be a not serious grown up name?
If any one has any other suggestions that have the nickname sunnie/sunny/[name]Sunni[/name] I am interested in hearing them also.
I also love how [name]Sunday[/name] is a vague reference to my husbands and mines Christianity without being any of the stereotypical biblical names.
We have doe that with ur boys name too being [name]Elliot[/name] - the modern version of [name]Elias[/name] a prophet and it means , man beloved by God.
Not an in your face reference but there as a part of the reasoning none the less.
The only other girls name we have is [name]Cleo[/name], that’s hubbies no 1 name.
I think [name]Sunday[/name] [name]Rose[/name] is beautiful and if I were you I would still use it. [name]Keith[/name] [name]Urban[/name] and [name]Nicole[/name] Kidman aren’t as high profile as they used to be. If you say that you got teary eyed thinking of the name again, I think that’s your answer!
i love the name [name]Sunday[/name]…I love anything with the word [name]Sun[/name] in it (my last name) but I think if you like the name screw everyone else…by the time that baby is in kindergarten that [name]Sunday[/name] Roast thing will prolly have been forgotten (I have no idea what it is…is it a certain type of restaurant? or a meal everyone in Australia eats?) Go with it.
And all I know is that I am craving some roasted lamb hard core right now…good thing passover is right around the corner
Definitely don’t spell it Sundae, but do use it if you love it. If people ask about [name]Nicole[/name] Kidman, just respond with a little humor and voila–question resolved. You aren’t planning to use [name]Rose[/name] anyway, and if you frequently call her [name]Sunny[/name] or [name]Daisy[/name] (cute alternative nickname that plays on the sounds of [name]Sunday[/name] and works in the flower thing), then a lot of people won’t even have a chance to get the Kidman-[name]Urban[/name] connection.
Since [name]Sunday[/name] is already a thing, I would avoid word names in the middle. I like [name]Sunday[/name] [name]Frances[/name] and [name]Sunday[/name] [name]Catherine[/name] (I think I prefer the latter), but what about…
As soon as I saw [name]Sunday[/name] [name]Rose[/name] - [name]Nicole[/name] Kidman came to mind. If you don’t mind the connection, go for it. But if it bothers you that much, I’d say change the middle name.
I think [name]Sunday[/name] (not Sundae!) is beautiful. Such a peaceful name, old-fashioned and offbeat at the same time. [name]Rose[/name], imo, makes it way too much of a good-girl name. [name]Catherine[/name] gives it strength. Also gentle but imo less twee than [name]Rose[/name]:
[name]Sunday[/name] [name]Camille[/name]
[name]Sunday[/name] [name]Adele[/name]
[name]Sunday[/name] Bloom
[name]Sunday[/name] [name]Elaine[/name]
[name]Sunday[/name] [name]Regina[/name]
[name]Sunday[/name] [name]Seren[/name]
[name]Sunday[/name] [name]Rosana[/name]
[name]Sunday[/name] [name]Snow[/name] (ok maybe this one’s a little twee, but it’s a nice image, no?)
I am an Aussie and I don’t think the Kidman/Urbans own the name [name]Sunday[/name]. Tho in fairness, they probably own the name [name]Sunday[/name] [name]Rose[/name]! Also worth remembering that by the time your little one grows up, the Kidmans will be old news and it’s unlikely anyone will care what they named their baby.
[name]Sunday[/name] [name]Frances[/name] or [name]Sunday[/name] [name]Catherine[/name] are lovely.
