Trying to think of a name for my third baby, a girl. I love the name [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f], but am hesitant because i’m afraid it’s going to get wayyy too popular (right now it’s in the low 500’s) and that puts me off. [name_f]My[/name_f] first daughter’s name is [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u], and it took a few years but now [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] is #20.
Trying to choose between [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] and [name_f]Gwenyth[/name_f] -with that spelling.
No. [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] won’t be the next [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]. The names share sounds, but other than that they have nothing in common. To be honest, I think a lot of modern parents would think the [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] sounds too old. It’s not my style, but I love it with [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]. Definitely use [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f]! I’m not a fan of [name_f]Gwenyth[/name_f], neither spelling.
I doubt [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] will be the next [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]. [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] and [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] sound great together, although I love [name_f]Gwenyth[/name_f]/[name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f] too.
[name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] has had more consistent popularity, never dropping below the mid-200’s.
[name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] hasn’t been in the top 300 since the late 80’s. I wouldn’t be surprised if it rises, but I don’t know if it’ll even make the top 100 much less make top 10 or #1 like [name_f]Sophia[/name_f].
[name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] sounds way to dated to become popular anytime soon…I just think of the 70’s-early '80’s crooner, or nursing home aged women. Sylvanie is cuter, but most people haven’t heard it before. [name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]–it’s so much more elegant and timeless.

Good question. It’s not out of the question, but I still think you’d be ahead of the trend, as you were with [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u].
I have met one toddler [name_f]Gwenyth[/name_f] and one toddler [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] will be more popular than [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f], but I guess that’s [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] and [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] all over again. 5 years ago people were saying ‘[name_f]Sophia[/name_f]? That’s an old lady name! Yuck!’
Regardless, it does flow well with [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] so if you love it, use it!
