Is Teddy to close to Thea?

I have recently asked some of my friends boy names they like. One of them suggested Teddy. The thing is that I already have a Theodora who goes by Thea. I know I wouldn’t be able to use Theodore, but could maybe I use Edward/Edwin as the full name. What do you guys think? I could also use some other suggestions for some vintage boy names.

I don’t think they are too close at all! They would be lovely together

totally fine, i think! Edward and Theodora or Edwin and Theodora don’t sound too matchy at all, and it seems like they won’t both go by Teddy. also, they don’t have the same meanings/roots!

I think it’s fine.
If he always goes by [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] some people might assume his full name is [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] and then they might be confused if they find out his sister is named [name_f]Theodora[/name_f]. But that wouldn’t be a problem, just funny.

It’s not too close.

I think they’re way too similar for siblings, honestly.

I don’t think they would be too close if [name_f]Thea[/name_f] was her full name, but honestly, with her name being [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] they’re way too close imo. [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] sounds like a nickname for her.

[name_m]Edwin[/name_m] “Teddy” and [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] “Thea” are nice together

I don’t think Thea and Teddy are too close in the day-to-day, confusing sense, but it would definitely bother me that they’re commonly used as nicknames for pretty much the same name. I do think it could work if Teddy emerges as your clear favorite, but I personally would want to avoid it. Edward/Edwin “Eddie” could be an alternative!

Theodora “Thea” and…

Abraham “Bram”
Albert “Albie”
Arthur “Archie” or “Arlo”
Benedict “Benji”
Charles “Charlie” or “Cal”
Francis or Franklin “Frankie”
Frederick “Freddie”
George
Gideon
Henry “Hal” or “Hank”
Joel
Joseph “Joey”
Julian “Jules”
Laurence “Laurie”
Lionel
Louis “Lou”
Malcolm “Mac”
Oliver “Ollie”
Oscar
Otis
Peter
Philip “Pip”
Raymond “Ray”
Simon
Tobias “Toby”
Walter “Wally”

Hmm… The one thing that would give me pause is the possibility that your [name_f]Thea[/name_f] might choose to go by [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] someday, especially if she ever wants a more gender-neutral NN.

They don’t sound alike, and probably only name nerds would know that they can be derived from the same name. But I don’t think I would do it. WDYT of [name_m]Ned[/name_m]? [name_m]Edwin[/name_m] or [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] nn [name_m]Ned[/name_m] would be a great brother name for [name_f]Theodora[/name_f].

I think they’re too similar, because they’re both nicknames for the same name. Theodora/Theodore and all their variations seem too close to be sibling names!

I don’t think it’s to close at all, especially because it’s just a nickname. [name_m]Edward[/name_m] is great. You could also call him ed/ [name_m]Eddie[/name_m]. So cute!
