Is that name too "Game of Thrones"?

So I’m currently writing this Family drama/romance novel. Right now I’m introducing a new (main) character into the story. His name is [name_m]Jonathan[/name_m], he is 19, of [name_m]German[/name_m], English and Possibly [name_m]French[/name_m] descent, he has blonde hair and blue eyes. But anyway, I really like the idea of nicknaming him “[name_m]Jon[/name_m]”, but since I and most of my friends are huge Game of Thrones nerds, I’m a little concerned that “[name_m]Jon[/name_m]” might be too much of a reminder of GoT, when he or the story have got nothing to do with it. I’m probably just being stupid. But do you think it’s fine? Should I just go with it or do you think people might think I named him for [name_m]Jon[/name_m] [name_f]Snow[/name_f]?

I think it’s fine. [name_m]John[/name_m] and its variants have been extremely popular for decades. It seems like a logical spelling of the nickname for [name_m]Jonathan[/name_m] in your context.

As someone who doesn’t follow Game of Thrones, I think it’s fine. It’s a common name, unlike [name_f]Daenerys[/name_f] or [name_m]Joffrey[/name_m] (literally the only characters I know the names of, besides [name_m]Jon[/name_m] [name_f]Snow[/name_f]). Use [name_m]Jon[/name_m] all you like. [name_f]Happy[/name_f] writing!

I don’t think [name_m]John[/name_m] (or [name_m]Jon[/name_m]) could possibly be tied to any one thing. It’s been one of the most popular male names in the English-speaking world for centuries.

Thank you, guys! You are amazing! I feel much better now!
