The original name is “[name_m]Canaan[/name_m]” but I’m worried that it will be pronounced “[name_m]Canon[/name_m]”. I also need a K name so I think I’m going to choose “Kaynan”. Is this spelling terrible?
Also, can anyone think of a nickname for this name that isn’t “[name_m]Kane[/name_m]”?
Thank you in advance!
I definitely prefer [name_m]Canaan[/name_m]. I wouldn’t say Kaynan is “terrible”. Take [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] for example, this is a translated name and over the years multiple spellings are accepted including [name_f]Kathryn[/name_f]. So I don’t feel like I can tell anyone that they are spelling their child’s name incorrectly, especially someone who has pretty much already decided that’s the name they are going to use…but no, I don’t love it. I think most people would know how to pronounce [name_m]Canaan[/name_m]. Those that don’t, you can fairly easily and gently correct them. I think [name_m]Canaan[/name_m] looks better on paper. The [name_m]Canaan[/name_m] spelling wins for me. I guess it comes down to how much do you love the name and how much will it bug you to correct people- and ultimately what spelling do YOU like
Kaynon is a little much. I prefer [name_m]Canaan[/name_m], but if you need a K name maybe go with [name_m]Kanaan[/name_m]? Not sure of any nicknames besides [name_m]Kane[/name_m], sorry.
I prefer [name_m]Canaan[/name_m] but Kaynan works too
[name_u]Kay[/name_u], [name_m]Nash[/name_m], Kap, [name_m]Kip[/name_m] or [name_u]Kit[/name_u] might work as nn
When I see [name_m]Canaan[/name_m] I wouldn’t pronounce it like “kaynan”, but I’m not from an English speaking country, so maybe that’s not the best reference. In terms of how it looks, I think [name_m]Canaan[/name_m] is the best option. If you need a k name, I’d go with [name_m]Kanaan[/name_m].
[name_m]Canaan[/name_m] is better than Kaynan. I know someone with a [name_m]Canaan[/name_m] and it works, although I do think the double a looks a bit strange. I don’t think it would get mistaken for [name_m]Canon[/name_m] though.
