Is the world ready for the name Cary on a boy?

I was wondering what you all thought of the idea of the name [name]Cary[/name] on a boy. I think it’s a great name, but, honestly, I don’t think I would have the guts to use it. What do you think?

I think it has nice, masculine namesakes with [name]Cary[/name] [name]Grant[/name] and [name]Cary[/name] Elwes, but when it’s spoken it sounds an awful lot like [name]Carrie[/name]. This doesn’t really deter me, and it doesn’t change my love of the name.

It does affect my husband, though, who prefers more harsh sounding, masculine boy names. If we use it, it will be limited to the middle spot.

[name]Carrie[/name] has fallen out of the top 1000 recently for girls, for the first time ever, so, I can kind of see [name]Cary[/name] working on a boy.

Absolutely! I would love to see a little boy named [name]Cary[/name]. I think it sounds dated for a girl but really refreshing on a boy, and that spelling in particular strikes me as seeming very masculine and old Hollywood, likely because of [name]Cary[/name] [name]Grant[/name].

That’s a good point jesba!

Absolutely.

Definitely. It’s so close to [name]Gary[/name] and [name]Cory[/name]. If spelled [name]Cary[/name], I think it’s fine.

I really love it on a boy. I’ve been trying to convince my wife to consider it, but she says it sounds to feminine and soft next to our [name]Miriam[/name]. I disagree, but she wins most of our fights.

Sigh, I once had the biggest crush on a boy name [name]Cary[/name] … Very handsome!

Yeah , definitely !

I think it’s a great idea  [name]Cary[/name] [name]Grant[/name] was my first thought too.

I love [name]Cary[/name] for a boy, and I think it could work (especially considering that [name]Carrie[/name], [name]Kerry[/name], etc. are now dated for girls).

Of course there’s [name]Cary[/name] [name]Grant[/name] but a more recent celeb is [name]Carey[/name] [name]Hart[/name]. He’s an action sports legend, married to the singer [name]Pink[/name], and has an adorable daughter named [name]Willow[/name].

Actually “girly” names aren’t uncommon among pro skaters/surfers/BMX/etc guys: [name]Carey[/name], [name]Stacy[/name], [name]Shea[/name], [name]Jaime[/name], [name]Shiloh[/name], [name]Kelly[/name]…
A lot of these names are so worn-out and overused for girls that now they are fresh for boys

I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Cary[/name] on a boy! (I would use it, but I’ve got such a major very open crush on [name]Cary[/name] Elwes, so my boyfriend says no.)
However, I’ve got [name]Zooey[/name] & [name]Meredith[/name] on my boy list. I’m pretty liberal.

[name]Cary[/name] is certainly usable on a boy! It has a fashionable feel to it! I have an older cousin named [name]Cary[/name], he is a Banker who is 52 years old. Also, my son’s basketball coach’s first name is [name]Kerry[/name] and he is about 31 years old. This name [name]Cary[/name]/[name]Kerry[/name] has been used on boys for many years.

I thought of [name]Cary[/name] [name]Grant[/name] and [name]Cary[/name] Elwes too. I actually prefer [name]Cary[/name] on a boy to [name]Carrie[/name] on a girl.

I totally agree with all the previous posters. Makes me think of [name]Cary[/name] [name]Grant[/name]…
dreamy sigh

Definitely. There is a character called [name]Cary[/name] on the show The Good Wife and every time I watch it and hear his name I just think how handsome it is! It very much evokes Old Hollywood for me, and I think it complements and fits well with the soft sounding boys names that are currently high in the popularity charts.

I don’t know about the world, but I certainly am!

I didn’t think of this as a possibility; then again, I also never made the [name]Cary[/name]/[name]Carrie[/name] connection. The spelling is clearly distinct, and one is usually a nickname and the other isn’t. In context, I don’t think I’d question it.
