Is there anything wrong with this spelling?

[name_m]Hi[/name_m]

I am wondering if there is anything wrong with the spelling [name_f]Lora[/name_f]. I way prefer [name_f]Lora[/name_f] over [name_f]Laura[/name_f]. I think most people prefer the [name_f]Laura[/name_f] spelling though. I pronounce both spellings the same. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you pronounce them the same? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like the spelling [name_f]Lora[/name_f]?

Thanks.

I don’t think there’s anything ‘wrong’ with it. Although I do say them differently: [name_f]Laura[/name_f] is law-rah and [name_f]Lora[/name_f] is Loh-rah. [name_m]Law[/name_m] being like Lawn and Loh being like the o sound in [name_u]Orange[/name_u].
If you think people around you will say [name_f]Lora[/name_f] and [name_f]Laura[/name_f] the same way as you, I guess it’s ok. Or if you don’t think it will be much hassle to correct people mispronouncing it.

I don’t mind it, I do prefer [name_f]Laura[/name_f] because I think it’s got a timeless feel to it but I certainly don’t think there’s anything wrong with it.

I probably pronounce them slightly differently (basically as maerad said) but not enough that I think it’s noticeable.

If you much prefer [name_f]Lora[/name_f] then I’d say you should go for it.

I pronounce them exactly the same. I just love the look of [name_f]Laura[/name_f] and its classic quality.

[name_f]Lora[/name_f] seems a bit made up to me

I think it’s actually less confusing. I always pronounce [name_f]Laura[/name_f] as law-ruh in my head.

I like [name_f]Lora[/name_f]! I don’t think there’s anything wrong with it! For what it’s worth, they’re also pronounced the same to me. As someone who also tends to like the “less popular” spelling of names quite often, you’re going to get people who prefer the “right” way (hello, it’s a name - there’s no RIGHT way to spell it) but you should do whatever YOU like. I used to be self conscious because I liked [name_f]Kimberley[/name_f] vs. [name_u]Kimberly[/name_u] or [name_f]Kassie[/name_f] vs. [name_f]Cassie[/name_f] but then I realized I shouldn’t care what people think about the spelling because it’s up to MY preference. There’s always going to be someone to criticize the spelling if you go any alternate route, but hey - newsflash - no matter WHAT way you spell a name, it’s always going to be misspelled at times. I’m sure there’s a [name_f]Laura[/name_f] out there who’s complained “People always spell my name [name_f]Lora[/name_f]!” My name is [name_m]Bryan[/name_m] and 90% of the time it’s spelled as [name_m]Brian[/name_m] when I introduce myself. Has it negatively affected my life? Not in the slightest, “Hey it’s [name_m]Bryan[/name_m] with y” isn’t hard to say.

Sorry for the rant. I just know how people on here and other sites can be about spelling purity and I say screw it!

I pronounce them both the same (Lor-ah). While I prefer [name_f]Laura[/name_f], there’s nothing wrong with [name_f]Lora[/name_f]. With [name_f]Cora[/name_f], [name_f]Nora[/name_f], and [name_f]Flora[/name_f] on the rise, I don’t think [name_f]Lora[/name_f] is out of place.

I prefer [name_f]Laura[/name_f].
[name_f]Laura[/name_f] reminds me of [name_f]Laura[/name_f] Ingalls [name_m]Wilder[/name_m].

There’s nothing wrong with it, but it will get misspelled A LOT. I prefer the [name_f]Laura[/name_f] spelling myself.

I’m a [name_f]Laura[/name_f] and haven’t met too many Loras in my life. I’ve met many girls named [name_f]Lori[/name_f] (as opposed to [name_u]Laurie[/name_u]).

It might get annoying that most people will assume the traditional spelling is used when they hear the name.

Thank you all.
