I saw the name [name_u]Felice[/name_u] (like [name_f]Elise[/name_f]: Feh-lees) on another baby board today and most of the posters seemed to really dislike it. It’s makes me a little sad because this is at the top my own list
Looking for a few more opinions. Is there something wrong with it? If you don’t like it, can you explain why?
[name_u]Felice[/name_u] has a dated ring to it. It also sounds like the word “fleece”.
It’s honestly not that bad; I think people get too worked up over names they might mildly dislike.
Is it everyone’s top choice? No. [name_m]Will[/name_m] it have a perfect connotation for everyone? Also no.
I personally love the way [name_u]Felice[/name_u] looks, but I can’t get used to the way it sounds. Not everyone pronounces it distinctly: “Feh-[name_f]LEECE[/name_f]”. Most people will slur it to sound like fleece.
I don’t think there’s anything ‘wrong’ with it; at first sight, I wasn’t too keen b/c it reminded me of masculine names like [name_u]Maurice[/name_u] and [name_u]Fabrice[/name_u] (which for the record I’m not mad on anyway) so as a girls’ name it seems a little odd. On second thoughts, it does have a pretty sound (I’m thinking feh-[name_f]LEECE[/name_f] but would pronounce [name_f]Elise[/name_f] eh-LEEZE) and tbh I think it’d go down much better when spoken aloud than it would written down. I expect you’ve thought of the usual suggestion - use [name_u]Felice[/name_u] as a nickname for, say, [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] or [name_f]Felicia[/name_f] - but can imagine that you might not be that keen.
So now I’m thinking about it, I’m liking [name_u]Felice[/name_u] more and more - I’d say it’s that initial reaction that’s getting such negative feedback. (Although naturally some people will just dislike it.) But at the end of the day, if that’s someone’s name, it’s their name, and that’s that. I personally dislike the names [name_f]Sue[/name_f], [name_f]Paula[/name_f], [name_u]Taylor[/name_u], [name_u]Ashley[/name_u], [name_f]Kayleigh[/name_f], etc., etc., but the fact remains that loads of people have these names, and it’s often the case where you might dislike a name and then meet someone with that name and decide you actually like it . . . so it’s very subjective really.
[name_f]Hope[/name_f] you find that useful - I just tend to ramble on and on if I don’t actively force myself to be brief!
The only thing I can think of would be people singing “[name_u]Feliz[/name_u] [name_f]Navidad[/name_f]” to her at [name_u]Christmas[/name_u]. It does feel a bit dated as well, but there’s nothing wrong with [name_u]Felice[/name_u].
Well, I’m pronouncing it Fel-ee-che not like Fel-eese but maybe that’s my Italian side. It’s a nice name. [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t listen to other people. I don’t like a lot of the names that people on here like ([name_f]Josephine[/name_f], [name_u]Eloise[/name_u], [name_f]Adelina[/name_f], [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f], [name_f]Linnea[/name_f], [name_f]Iris[/name_f], [name_f]Estelle[/name_f], [name_f]Isabella[/name_f], [name_f]Mabel[/name_f], [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f], [name_f]Victoria[/name_f], etc) and find them very pretentious and “stuck-up.” Other’s adore these names. It’s all the preception of the name and how you perceive it. Other people will always dislike something. That doesn’t mean it’s not good. It only matters if YOU like it.
If you and your partner like it I think that is all that is important. My only major rule is that the name has to be something that you could live with yourself if that was your name.
It sounds a little dated, but my first thought is Felize [name_f]Navi[/name_f] Da (or however you spell it…I have no idea. The Christiams song??) which isn’t a bad association [name_f]IMO[/name_f]. It’s a pretty name.
I don’t think it is a bad name. It just has some not so great connotations. It reminds me of the joke “bye, [name_f]Felicia[/name_f]” Also it looks a lot like feline. It also sounds like fleece. I would maybe look for alternatives.
Ends in -eese

I just don’t like the way it looks. I’m always drawn to the -lice combination but similar names like [name_f]Alice[/name_f] don’t do this, just [name_u]Felice[/name_u]. However, I am fond of the name [name_f]Felicity[/name_f]. Also, whenever I see it I want to pronounce it [name_f]Fe[/name_f]-[name_u]LEE[/name_u]-chay. Nothing is wrong with it necessarily, though, so if you like it that’s totally fine.

(I am I supposed to manually link the names I type on the forum? I can’t figure it out lol)
I don’t think there is anything wrong with it. It’s a very nice name and if you like it you should use it. The only reason I’m personally not crazy about it is because I already know a boy named [name_u]Felice[/name_u] pronounced Feh-lee-chay, but I still think it makes a perfectly nice girls name pronounced Feh-lees.
It’s not bad. Not my personal favorite but it’s not like it’s horrid. My DD has a friend named [name_u]Lexie[/name_u] [name_u]Felice[/name_u] and I know it’s a family name for them.
I think it’s lovely! It’s a fresh take on [name_f]Felicia[/name_f] and [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] (both or which I don’t care for) imo. I think it has a beautiful sound to it and I also don’t see anything wrong with how it “looks” on paper. It looks like a beautiful name!
