Is this a plausible honour name?

So I’m thinking of naming a future son [name_m]Malachi[/name_m]. Hubby and I both love the name, so initially were just attracted to the sound, but then I got thinking - my Dad’s middle name is [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m]. I don’t really like [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m] and neither does he, but my dad is super important to me and I’d love to name a child for him. His first name is not usable and doesn’t lend itself to any variations. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think it’s too far of a stretch to use [name_m]Malachi[/name_m] as an honour name? [name_m]Malachi[/name_m]'s middle name will be the name of my grandfather, hubby’s grandfather, and hubby’s middle name so there’s a strong connection there.

[name_f]Edit[/name_f]: I should mention, I am the most creative in my family, and my husband’s family, by FAR. While I can see it as easily plausible I’m looking for encouragement that very unimaginative people will too :stuck_out_tongue:

I think it does work but because it isn’t the exact name of your dad, if you tell him that it is an honour name for him I’m sure he would be thrilled.

I think it’s a great idea. What a lucky guy to have such a strong family name.

I love the name [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m], but [name_m]Malachi[/name_m] works just fine as an honor-name for [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m].

It could work. I would say that [name_m]Malachi[/name_m]'s name was inspired by your dad’s name, but I wouldn’t say that [name_m]Malachi[/name_m] was named after [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m].
