I might have made it up without realising it… I’ve thought about it for years, and I’m sure it’s a real name… or maybe not? Am I going mad?
It’s pronounced like [name_f]Anya[/name_f] but with a ‘d’ at the beginning. Like [name_f]Donia[/name_f], but more “ahn” rather than “on”. Dahn-ya
[name_u]Danya[/name_u]? Would this be pronounced like the beginning of [name_m]Dan[/name_m]? [name_f]Dania[/name_f]? Though this looks like day-nee-uh Dahnya? Made up looking?
There is a blogger ([name_u]Danya[/name_u] Banya) who says it is pronounced like [name_f]Tania[/name_f] with a D. So I don’t think that is the best spelling for the pronunciation you are looking for.
I also like [name_u]Danya[/name_u] and [name_f]Dania[/name_f] prn dahn-ya! There is a [name_f]Dania[/name_f] [name_m]Beach[/name_m] in or near Ft Lauderdale FL, where I fell in love with the name years ago, but came to find out it’s pronounced [name_m]DAYN[/name_m]-ya. For DAHN-ya, i would use [name_u]Danya[/name_u].
[name_u]Danya[/name_u] is a nickname for [name_u]Danila[/name_u]/[name_m]Daniil[/name_m], a Slavic version of [name_m]Daniel[/name_m]. So I used to know only one [name_u]Danya[/name_u], who was male and born in [name_f]Russia[/name_f]. I have read it is sometimes used as nickname for [name_f]Daria[/name_f], too.
I would use the [name_u]Danya[/name_u] spelling.
You’re aren’t going mad…all these names are real. I personally know someone by the name of “[name_f]Dania[/name_f]” and its pronounced Da-ni-ya. The name as has a strong meaning to it which is “God is my judge”. I prefer the spelling of [name_f]Dania[/name_f] rather than [name_u]Danya[/name_u].
