Is this a weird name?

We still like [name]Coen[/name], but we’re thinking of other alternatives, too.

Right now it’s Lowen. Pronounced “LOW-win.”

WDYT? [name]How[/name] does it sound with [name]Anniston[/name]?

My fear is that people will think we named them after [name]Jennifer[/name] Aniston and [name]Lindsay[/name] Lohan. However, I don’t care about that enough not to use it.

It matches [name]Anniston[/name] well, but I think it could still be mispronounced lou (like loud) -en.

It seems like you’re really drawn to those sleek names ending with the -en/-an sound. Some other thoughts:

[name]Alban[/name]
[name]Alton[/name]
[name]Bannon[/name]
[name]Bowman[/name]
[name]Brendan[/name]

[name]Callan[/name]
[name]Ciaran[/name]
[name]Clinton[/name]
[name]Corbin[/name]
[name]Dawson[/name]
[name]Eamon[/name] (Irish name prn AY-mon)
[name]Easton[/name]
[name]Gibson[/name]
[name]Glendon[/name]
[name]Holden[/name]
[name]Kellan[/name]
[name]Kenton[/name]
[name]Landon[/name]

[name]Pearson[/name]
[name]Quinlan[/name]
Reston
[name]Ronan[/name]
[name]Thornton[/name]
[name]Tillman[/name]
[name]Tyson[/name]
[name]Weston[/name]
[name]Byron[/name]

I think the best, most unambiguous match for the sound you’re looking for is Bowen.

[name]Do[/name] NOT use the name [name]Cohen[/name]: it is fraught with problems. Please read the comments here: http://swistlebabynames.blogspot.co.uk/2012/05/baby-naming-issue-cohen.html

Lowen sounds like a girls’ name due to its similarity with [name]Elowen[/name] and association with female celebrities.

[name]How[/name] about [name]Nolan[/name], [name]Bowen[/name], [name]Rowan[/name] or [name]Owen[/name]?

It does seem very celebrity inspired to me. I think [name]Coen[/name] or [name]Cohen[/name] would be better.

I am aware about the problems with [name]Cohen[/name].

what about lawson/lossen?

I don’t like Lowen.

So many things could arrive from that name.

Lowen calories!
Lowen strength!
Lowen brains!
Lowen self esteem!

It also very much sounds like a made up name. I don’t want to be rude or shoot you down, but I really really dislike Lowen.

I prefer [name]Cohen[/name] any day. I am also very much for [name]Rowan[/name] as a boys name. I think it is stunning either for female or male.

It’s a surname and really unappealing. I’m not going to sugarcoat it - it’s bad.

I’d steer clear of [name]Cohen[/name], [name]Coen[/name], any spelling of this very Jewish surname.
Lowen… I like the sound. I associate the name with [name]Alexander[/name] Lowen, the follower of [name]Wilhelm[/name] Reich, kind of out-there psychotherapist. [name]Do[/name] you like:
[name]Weston[/name]
[name]Winslow[/name]
[name]Lowell[/name]
[name]Lyle[/name]
[name]Lytton[/name]
[name]Lawrence[/name]
[name]Lyon[/name]
[name]Leon[/name]

I completely agree. Lowen doesn’t convince me either … it may be a surname, but it sounds really weird as a first and the associations above would also make me second-guess. That UK blog entry posted above has some great suggestions, why not consider one of those?

I’m not liking the way Lowen sounds.
