Is this an awful idea?

all of the sudden i really like the name myles for a girl! on another form i found a thread from a few years ago, someone posed the same idea and every person said that naming a girl myles/miles would be terrible. so berries, what are your thoughts?! :joy:

I don’t personally like it, but I think it works and could be quite cool.

I love this! Especially the [name_m]Myles[/name_m] spelling! I prefer [name_u]Miles[/name_u] for a boy but the ā€œyā€ makes it feel more unisex.

I actually knew a lady in her late 30s named [name_u]Miles[/name_u]. Always loved it!

I think it could work :woman_shrugging: kind of liking it

I like it! I think the [name_m]Myles[/name_m] spelling opens the door to more of a unisex name than the [name_u]Miles[/name_u]. In my opinion though, either or could work for a girl. It’s one of those names that flirts on the unisex line and those are normally the ones I like best :joy:. If you like it, I think it is completely usable!

It’s not terrible, but I’m not keen personally. [name_u]Miles[/name_u] is such a wonderful, handsome, cool classic boy name, I just can’t picture it on a girl at all.

i think it would work well for a nickname at least ! something like myla or amylia ā€˜miles/myles’ would be cute

I don’t see why this would be awful when Mile or [name_u]Miles[/name_u] is a common nickname for [name_f]Miley[/name_f]. If girls go by [name_u]Miles[/name_u] all the time as a nickname, then what’s the issue with just giving them that name? I don’t love it personally, but I’m just not a fan of the name in general. But I am a huge fan of nickname names and traditionally masculine names on girls (I have on my list [name_u]Ollie[/name_u], [name_u]Reggie[/name_u], etc), so [name_u]Miles[/name_u] definitely checks those boxes. I would be very excited to meet a little girl [name_u]Miles[/name_u].

It isn’t unexpected, while I’m personally not a fan, it blends in the boy-name-on-girl trend (especially in the US)

I’d pass seriously. [name_f]Miley[/name_f] would be a great alternative that would likely get far less raised eye brows.

I’d go with a longer, more feminine name (Miley, [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f], Myla,…) and choose [name_m]Myles[/name_m] as a nickname.

I like it! I prefer the [name_u]Miles[/name_u] spelling in general, but [name_m]Myles[/name_m] isn’t bad. While it’s more popular for boys, it is a word name which, for me at least, make it automatically unisex. There’s also more feminine options as nicknames like [name_f]Mya[/name_f], [name_f]Miley[/name_f], [name_f]Isla[/name_f], [name_f]Myla[/name_f] and [name_u]Les[/name_u]! I see no problem with this, I think it’d be sweet and unisex names are very popular so this would blend in just fine. I say go for it!

As Miles/Myles is quite common for boys I would give her a more feminine name as many have suggested above, and go with [name_m]Myles[/name_m] as her nickname. It also gives her options in case she doesn’t like having a unisex-style name or perhaps has male classmates named [name_u]Miles[/name_u], etc.

I mean, it’s no crazier than [name_u]James[/name_u] on a girl. I don’t like either, but it’s not off-trend I suppose.

I know multiple girls who have [name_m]Myles[/name_m] as a nickname, and I think that definitely works! But I think it’s best as a nickname and not on-the-birth-certificate.

I agree with others that it’s better as [name_m]Myles[/name_m] than [name_u]Miles[/name_u] if you’re going for it anyways though, as a general comment

If you like the nn [name_f]Mylie[/name_f] then go for it

I actually really like the idea of [name_u]Miles[/name_u] on a girl! I know personally I’d love to be called [name_u]Miles[/name_u]. I like the suggestion of using a longer first name and [name_u]Miles[/name_u] as a nickname too, especially because then the name wearer would have options for what they want to go by!

I definitely prefer [name_u]Miles[/name_u] to [name_m]Myles[/name_m], and absolutely do not think you need to spell it [name_m]Myles[/name_m] for it to be more ā€œfeminine.ā€ I dont think adding Ys to names makes them more feminine (just feels more trendy, in my opinion)!
