I have really been loving the name [name]Calla[/name] lately and I was excited to tell my husband about it, but when I did he just laughed and said “Like the [name]Princess[/name] from the Gummi Bears?” I was a little young when that show was on so I didn’t even think about it, I had forgotten there was a [name]Princess[/name] [name]Calla[/name]. But I’m worried that our friends who are all in their late twenties to mid-thirties will only think of the Gummi Bears. WDYT? And would it pair well with [name]Rowan[/name]?
I’ve also been loving [name]Thea[/name] because of the mythology behind it, but will people assume it’s short for [name]Dorothea[/name]? I really don’t like [name]Dorothea[/name] or [name]Theodora[/name] for that matter, so it would kinda bug me.
What? I am 30 and have no idea what you are talking about. I forget if you are US or UK or elsewhere? US here. It might be widespread, I dunno, I watched TV growing up but maybe a little less than average. Still, the only thing I think of is the lily (well, and then [name]Maria[/name] [name]Callas[/name], and the expression “call a…”).
I like [name]Calla[/name]. I think it would pair OK with [name]Rowan[/name]. I like the botanical theme both would have. [name]Calla[/name]'s a fair bit more feminine than [name]Rowan[/name], but I don’t think that has to rule the name out.
[name]Thea[/name]: I for one wouldn’t think it was short for [name]Dorothea[/name]. I know one [name]Thea[/name] and she is just [name]Thea[/name].
No I don’t think the connection is too strong. Unless the person was a real fan of the Gummi Bears cartoon and remembered the names of all the characters, I doubt they’d even make that connection. More people are going to associate [name]Calla[/name] with [name]Calla[/name] [name]Lily[/name].
It’s like with the name [name]Oriana[/name], unless someone was a fan of [name]Felix[/name] the cat and remembered the name of the princess in that one movie made a long time ago… Or nowadays you have the name [name]Octavia[/name], which is a name of one of the ponies on My [name]Little[/name] Pony Friendship is [name]Magic[/name]. Unless someone is a fan of those cartoons, it’s not even going to enter their minds.
I love when NB teaches me these new little nuggets of knowledge! On another thread I’ve learned about a Canadian politician and a Spanish (language, I forget which country) singer. ([name]Belinda[/name]).
Here’s hoping it comes up at pub quiz sometime ; )!
I am trying to remember what cartoons I do remember names from. I remember the name [name]Bianca[/name] from gosh I can’t even recall what cartoon! and [name]Gem[/name]. And [name]Barbie[/name]. I watched a ton of My [name]Little[/name] Pony but the names didn’t stick with me. She-ra, but I don’t think that’s too widely considered ([name]Shira[/name], maybe). I remember [name]Daphne[/name] from Scooby Doo, but more from seeing it posted on here than from actually remembering it! [name]Alvin[/name], [name]Simon[/name], [name]Theodore[/name]. But the girl chipmunks’ names I don’t really remember.
[name]Calla[/name] is so pretty…it is really nice with [name]Rowan[/name]…that is my favorite ,…girls name…another name I am in love with lately is [name]Aster[/name]
I watched the show as a kid, but can’t even remember a [name]Princess[/name] [name]Calla[/name]. I can remember a [name]Tammy[/name], thats the only name that comes to mind. So no, definitely not to strong
In any case, I love the name [name]Calla[/name]. It reminds me of lilies, and specifically of my very favourite type of lily. I see it as a beautiful alternative to a lovely, yet overused name. And no, I cannot possibly imagine connecting it to any kind of TV show (or candy).
I am 32 and definitely watched the Gummi Bears. I can still sing most of the theme song as well. However, I had no idea that there was a [name]Calla[/name] on there. It sounds like you are totally safe!
[name]Calla[/name] is all “lily” to me – I’m 29, grew up in the northeast, watched a ton of TV, am in love with sugary treats (especially of the gummy variety) and the only Gummi Bears I know are the kind I love to eat! Who knew they had a tv show OR a princess! haha
The only name I remember from the Gummi Bears cartoon was [name]Sunni[/name] (the young, yellow bear) and the only reason I remember her name is because they gave her an uber short haircut so for years I assumed she was a boy (the unisex name didn’t help either). I know that there were two human children on the show but I don’t recall their names. So to sum up, I think you’re safe using [name]Calla[/name].
Like I said, and others have said, not too many people are ever going to associate the name [name]Calla[/name] with the show. Most people are not going to recall the names of cartoon characters from the 80’s unless they were huge fans of the Gummi Bears or trivia buffs.
I watched that show when I was little. I actually remember the opening song! But I don’t remember any character names so your fine as long as everyone has a bad memort like me! Anyway people use [name]Eleanor[/name] so much these days despite the chubby girl from Chipmunks!
Never even thought about it. (Or maybe I can’t be counted, since I was totally 90’s kid. I have no idea that show had ever exist).
Like the others, I’m thinking about [name]Calla[/name] [name]Lily[/name].
[name]Calla[/name] is so pretty (and the meaning is pretty!) but I like [name]Thea[/name] too.
Sounds like you’re a mythology names fan (and me too). [name]How[/name] about [name]Callista[/name]? meaning the most beautiful. Or its real greek version [name]Callisto[/name].
