Is this crazy?

I stumbled upon the idea of [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_f]Rilian[/name_f] earlier today, and I’m surprised by how much I like it? I do love the Chronicles of [name_f]Narnia[/name_f], and I especially enjoyed [name_u]Silver[/name_u] Chair when I was younger, although it’s not as huge of a favorite today as The Last Battle or [name_m]Prince[/name_m] [name_m]Caspian[/name_m]. I love the idea of using a Narnian name–always have!–and I think [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_f]Rilian[/name_f] sounds and looks really cool.

Is [name_f]Rilian[/name_f] too weird, though? Obviously some Narnian names are a no-go (like Puddleglum and Reepicheep!), but [name_f]Rilian[/name_f] always seemed rather usable to me (helped along, I think, by its similar sound to [name_f]Lillian[/name_f], [name_f]Jillian[/name_f], [name_m]Killian[/name_m], [name_m]William[/name_m], etc.!). My other hesitation is, I am much more attached to other characters from the series–Aslan, [name_m]Peter[/name_m], Tumnus, [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], Reepicheep, [name_m]Caspian[/name_m], even [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] (though I’m not terribly keen on his name)–but I like [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_f]Rilian[/name_f] more than [name_m]Jack[/name_m] Aslan, [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_m]Peter[/name_m], [name_m]Jack[/name_m] Tumnus, and [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_m]Caspian[/name_m]. Although I wonder if the fact that [name_f]Rilian[/name_f] is connected to [name_f]Narnia[/name_f] in general makes it more appealing?

I was considering something along the lines of [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_f]Rilian[/name_f] [name_m]Oscar[/name_m], [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] [name_f]Rilian[/name_f]/[name_f]Rilian[/name_f] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m], or [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_f]Rilian[/name_f] [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] in full.

Anyway. What do you think? Yay or nay for [name_f]Rilian[/name_f]?

Thanks, berries!

I really like it! I like the literary connection and I don’t think [name_f]Rilian[/name_f] sound too strange at all! Between the familiar [name_m]Jack[/name_m] and [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] or [name_m]Jack[/name_m] and [name_u]Elliot[/name_u], it sounds perfectly natural - a little mystical but still grounded and well fitted.

[name_f]Rilian[/name_f] [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] is an excellent middle name for [name_m]Jack[/name_m]- it manages to add some zest without sounding made up, or out there!

I like it. It’s more of a subtle reference than some of the more out there names like Aslan or Tumnus, but more interesting than [name_m]Peter[/name_m], [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] or [name_f]Susan[/name_f].

I think [name_f]Rilian[/name_f] makes a great middle (I think I have it in a combo somewhere)! [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_f]Rilian[/name_f] [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] is really handsome, and perfectly balances [name_f]Rilian[/name_f]’s more unusual, magical feel with [name_m]Jack[/name_m]’s energy and [name_m]Oscar[/name_m]’s more down to earth feel. I’m surprised Nameberry doesn’t have [name_f]Rilian[/name_f] as a unisex name to be honest.

[name_f]Rilian[/name_f] is such a handsome middle, I like it  I don’t think it’s crazy at all

What a lovely find! It has a nice sound and a subtle [name_f]Narnia[/name_f] connection, definitely a winner name combo.

[name_f]Rilian[/name_f] is definitely usable in my opinion - it’s beautifully quirky yet feels vaguely familiar due perhaps, as you say, its similarity to the likes of [name_f]Lillian[/name_f], [name_m]Kilian[/name_m], and [name_m]William[/name_m], and also, in having the popular -an ending. [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_f]Rilian[/name_f] [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] makes for a great combo. I think it’d be a nice namesake for you, were you to love the character, as much as the series he’s in…

I feel like, if you’re not as fond of [name_f]Rilian[/name_f] as you are some of the other characters in the series, it may well seem to be a fantastic idea for you now, but that love may fade over time due to the meaningful connection being weak, and you’ll potentially regret not using other beloved character names from the books. Personally, I think you’d be better off with [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] or Aslan (both brilliant names) and a combo such as [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] [name_m]Caspian[/name_m], which sounds a great, strong, zesty combo indeed to me.

Oooo, I love Rillian. I’ve never read [name_f]Narnia[/name_f] but it stands up very nicely.

As a writer, myself, I think Rillian would make a great first name, not only for a character but also for a baby.

Yay yay yay to [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_f]Rilian[/name_f]! I love it — the sound, the wonderful balance of traditional + quirky, and the literary significance to you.

[name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_f]Rilian[/name_f] [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] is an incredible combo, full of fun and mischief, but also solid and grounded.

I think it’s totally usable. I wouldn’t have known it was from that if you hadn’t said hahaha

I absolutely love [name_f]Narnia[/name_f] too, so we have another thing in common! I’m sure I will never tire of that world of wonder.

[name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_f]Rilian[/name_f] sounds stunning and is very usable, but I would hesitate over the fact that he is not the most meaningful character from the series. Personally, I feel a strong connection to the characters who experience personal growth or make mistakes they have to learn from - particularly Digory, but also [name_m]Edmund[/name_m], Tumnus, and [name_m]Eustace[/name_m]. I don’t know what you think of the name Digory, but it’s something to ponder over.
