Hello everyone- My hubby and I are thinking about a second child (already have a boy). Our last name is Katz and we really [name]LOVE[/name] the name [name]Felix[/name] for another boy. The possible dilemma…does [name]Felix[/name] Katz sound too reminiscent of [name]Felix[/name] the [name]Cat[/name]. Would this be cute/clever or do I risk people making fun of the name? Please be honest! Thanks!
You will likely get a few people asking, “Like [name]Felix[/name] the [name]Cat[/name]?”, but I don’t know if it’s a reference a lot of people would know these days, much less your child’s future classmates. As far as I can see from Wikipedia, [name]Felix[/name] the [name]Cat[/name] hasn’t been on TV for decades. I don’t think it’s unusable, plus I love the name [name]Felix[/name]!
Many individuals already have a strong association of the name [name]Felix[/name] with the cartoon cat (I think of the the saint or composer before the cat but that’s just me. I’m afraid [name]Felix[/name] Katz would just increase this image in people’s minds so personally I would give it a pass. The name doesn’t flow very well with your surname anyway (x and z).
The german word for [name]Cat[/name] is Katze.
Sometimes shortened to Katz’.
And [name]Felix[/name] is the name of a cat food here.
So I woudln’t usw it together.
But I think the association isn’t that big in other countries?
Apart from that I don’t like the sound of [name]FeliX[/name] KatZ, like [name]Mischa[/name] said!
I really, really love the name [name]Felix[/name]! Honestly, I have no idea what [name]Felix[/name] the [name]Cat[/name] is anyway, but that’s probably due to my age. [name]Felix[/name] Katz does kind of sound a little clunky but otherwise, if you like it, I see no major problem with it.
I think [name]Felix[/name] the [name]Cat[/name] is sufficiently old-school that you don’t have to worry. And I quite like the sound of [name]Felix[/name] Katz. Plus if anyone does make the connection, it’ll be a good laugh.
Thanks everyone!
Considering that just the name [name]Feliz[/name] reminds me of the cartoon anyway…I think with the last name “Katz” it would especially go overboard for me.
And even thought the cartoon may no longer be on TV, I still see merchandise for [name]Felix[/name] the [name]Cat[/name]. Like the clocks with the shifty eyes, or t-shirts etc.
I’m in my twenties and I know who [name]Felix[/name] the [name]Cat[/name] is. The character is one of the first pictures that comes up if you do a Google image search on just the name [name]Felix[/name]. ‘[name]Felix[/name]’ is also a brand of cat food in UK, as well as in Germany as a pp said, so the feline link is still very much alive & kicking in Europe at least.
Personally I would think the parents were a bit cruel if I met a little boy with this name, especially if they already knew of [name]Felix[/name] the [name]Cat[/name] in the first place. You may think it’s cute, but your son probably won’t after the umpteenth cat joke.
I don’t get the reference, but I’m 18 and didn’t/don’t really watch TV ever. Sooooo… yeah. But I don’t think it works with your last name, really.
it does sound like felix the cat, but it isn’t a bad connotation so if it doesn’t bother you then its fine. It could be a cute nickname
I don’t think the association is a problem but I think [name]Felix[/name] Katz looks awkward. It’s something about the X followed by the K that is compounded by the z. I’d personally choose something else, I’m sorry
In my opinion, it is so closely related that I believe most people would think of [name]Felix[/name] the [name]Cat[/name]. Also, as others have said, [name]Felix[/name] Katz looks awkward and does not flow well.
Ehh, no, I’m afraid [name]Felix[/name] Katz would make people laugh behind your back. I once knew a kid named [name]Luke[/name] [name]Walker[/name], and people used to say “wonder if his middle name is [name]Sky[/name].” I sure wouldn’t want to be stuck with it, and I agree, “the X followed by the K that is compounded by the z” is exactly the thing that makes the names awkward together. Sorry.
I would keep looking.
