Is this made up name stupid?

We have a friend names [name_u]Shay[/name_u], and my middle name is [name_f]LeeAnn[/name_f], my moms, [name_f]MIL[/name_f], Aunts, and neices middle names are all [name_f]Ann[/name_f], so I thought maybe ShayAnn or something? does that work?

I don’t think ShayAnn really works. Could you do it? Yes. But it looks made up and a tiny bit… well, tacky?!
There’s always [name_u]Cheyenne[/name_u]/Chayenne which is a realy name and it would include both sounds.

I think the capitalisation of the A makes it look weird.

I agree with geeknamer. You could try [name_u]Shay[/name_u]-[name_f]Ann[/name_f], which looks a bit neater and less made up.

It’s not stupid and I like the advice to treat it like a double name like [name_f]Mary[/name_f]-[name_f]Kate[/name_f], [name_f]Emily[/name_f]-[name_f]Sophia[/name_f], [name_f]Ivy[/name_f]-[name_u]Lou[/name_u]…etc. and hyphenate it.

I’d add a hyphen for clarity, but [name_u]Shay[/name_u]-[name_f]Ann[/name_f] is a very nice name.

99% of the time I’m not a fan of the “smoosh” names. I like [name_u]Shay[/name_u] and [name_f]Ann[/name_f] by themselves, but I don’t care for ShayAnn. My suggestion would be [name_u]Shannon[/name_u]. It incorporates sounds from both names, while still being a legitimate name. I also love the idea of using an “[name_f]Ann[/name_f]” variation as a first name and [name_u]Shay[/name_u] in the middle ([name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_u]Shay[/name_u], [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] [name_u]Shay[/name_u], [name_f]Annika[/name_f] [name_u]Shay[/name_u], etc…)

[name_f]ShayAnne[/name_f] doesn’t sound right when you say it aloud. [name_m]Just[/name_m] [name_u]Shay[/name_u], Shaylene, or [name_f]Shaila[/name_f] are pretty names. I knew a girl named [name_u]Shay[/name_u], but she spelled it as Schay, which I thought really added something to the name.

You might also like:

[name_f]Carrie[/name_f]-[name_f]Ann[/name_f]/e
[name_f]Luanna[/name_f]
[name_f]Hailey[/name_f]

& Honestly I don’t think hypenating it would solve any problems besides making it look prettier on paper. It’s still a tongue twister to say. When I say it, it almost sounds like [name_u]Shan[/name_u] - it’s hard to say both of those names together. I second the suggestion of [name_u]Shannon[/name_u] as well.

I don’t think it is stupid. I just don’t like it, but to each her own.

I certainly don’t think it to be ‘stupid’, however, I am personally not a fan of ShayAnn. I typically dislike capitals in the middle of names though, and although I am not big on hyphens either, I do think (like others have mentioned before me) that [name_u]Shay[/name_u]-[name_f]Ann[/name_f] would look a lot nicer. Also, I do find ShayAnn to look and feel like a trendy-creative version of [name_u]Cheyenne[/name_u] which is not a great thing either I don’t think.

Have you thought about using [name_u]Shay[/name_u] along with an [name_f]Ann[/name_f]- variant (as either a first and a middle name, or a double middle name with another of your favourites as first)? There are so many [name_f]Ann[/name_f]- variants out there, and you’re sure to enjoy at least one of them…

Why not just [name_u]Shay[/name_u] [name_f]Ann[/name_f], [name_f]Ann[/name_f] as a middle name.
If not, I would go the route of [name_u]Shay[/name_u]-[name_f]Ann[/name_f].

I think it sounds like a model or something. Gives me an image of a smart, talented girl.

[name_f]Shayanne[/name_f] looks awesome.

It’s not that bad, but I agree that it does feel a bit like an odd variation of [name_u]Cheyenne[/name_u] as some previous posters have said. I have a friend with the spelling [name_f]Shyanne[/name_f], maybe that would work better as a more direct connection to [name_u]Shay[/name_u] and [name_f]Ann[/name_f] than [name_u]Cheyenne[/name_u]?
