Is this middle name too masculine?

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] is a strange combination? I know [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] is considered by many a boy’s name, but I’ve always really loved the way it sounds.

Not at all - that’s an absolutely stunning combination!
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] is definitely unisex. I do slightly prefer it on a girl, but regardless - that doesn’t change the fact that it’s a great name and fitting for either!

I think of [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] as a truly gender-neutral name. It’s pretty unique in that respect, as most names that are “gender-neutral” were originally boy’s names adopted by girls… fewer visa versa. But mostly in the last century… and a LOT in the past quarter century. But [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] seems to have historically been used for both boys and girls. I do not think of it as particularly masculine or feminine, and like it for either sex. The current split may be more boys born than girls, but that doesn’t make it masculine in my mind.

[name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] is adorable.

I think [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] works perfectly fine together!

I think [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] is a wonderful combination. [name_u]Rowan[/name_u], I also consider it a true gender-neutral name. It works great!

[name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] looks and sounds beautiful. Not masculine at all as I think [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] balances perfectly with the classic, timeless and feminine [name_f]Anna[/name_f] in a more earthy way.

You just put two of my favorite names together and it’s stunning! I don’t think of [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] as a boy’s name at all! [name_f]Every[/name_f] [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] I met in my life was a girl.

I do think [name_u]Rowan[/name_u], as a traditional boys name, is evidently more masculine than feminine (although its origin roots could be seen as unisex - so maybe one of the true names that go both ways g). [name_f]Rowena[/name_f] would be the feminine alternative but clashes a little with [name_f]Anna[/name_f].

[name_f]Romilly[/name_f] has a similar sound. [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] or [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] both refer to ‘red’. Roanna (or Rosanna) is an option to combine both names.

[name_f]Glad[/name_f] to hear that others think of [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] as usable in a girl’s name. I appreciate all the helpful responses!

I agree that [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] is truly unisex.
[name_m]Even[/name_m] if it weren’t, [name_f]Anna[/name_f] is ‘feminine’ enough to offset a more neutral (or even a ‘masculine’) middle without being gender-ambiguous. It’s a combo that lets her choose how gendered she wants her name to be, which I think is wonderful.
