Is this name combo too much?

So recently DH and I have started loving the name [name_m]Roman[/name_m]. We think it’s unique enough to satisfy our want of having a ‘different’ name but still has the ability to grow through childhood to adult life.

We also love the name [name_m]Wolf[/name_m] and we think the name [name_m]Roman[/name_m] [name_m]Wolf[/name_m] flows really nicely.

So heres the problem: The name [name_m]Roman[/name_m] derives from [name_m]Romulus[/name_m] who was raised with his brother [name_m]Remus[/name_m] by wolves.

Using the names [name_m]Roman[/name_m] and [name_m]Wolf[/name_m] together isnt intentional. So my question is, is this too much? Did anyone else think of that?

Nah, I think you’re overthinking it. [name_m]Romulus[/name_m] or [name_m]Remus[/name_m] [name_m]Wolf[/name_m] might be too lupine for one combo, but [name_m]Roman[/name_m] feels well enough established as a name in its own right that people won’t instantly jump to (or even know of) its origin.

[name_m]Roman[/name_m] [name_m]Wolf[/name_m] is wonderful!

I’m in agreement with @katinka. [name_m]Roman[/name_m] itself doesn’t make me go to [name_m]Romulus[/name_m] straight away, so the connection is far from obvious. [name_m]Roman[/name_m] [name_m]Wolf[/name_m] is handsome and creative.

[name_m]Roman[/name_m] [name_m]Wolf[/name_m] sounds like a wolf you’d find inhabiting [name_m]Rome[/name_m]. That was my first thought on seeing it. I am also aware of the mythology, but I didn’t think of that right away when I saw it.

I like it! I don’t think people will immediately make that association, and even if they did, I don’t think it ruins it at all. Very creative name  sounds like the name of a spunky kid!

The first thing I thought of with [name_m]Roman[/name_m] [name_m]Wolf[/name_m] was [name_m]Romulus[/name_m], but I’m in the minority, clearly. haha I don’t think the association is going to be obvious for most people, so I’d go for it. =]

I agree with autumnreverie. My first thought is that it sounds like a species of wolf.

Not a fan. I immediately thought of [name_m]Romulus[/name_m] and [name_m]Remus[/name_m]. [name_m]Roman[/name_m] [name_m]Wolf[/name_m] also sounds like a description. Those two things together make the combo a bit ridiculous to me.

It sounds like “roaming wolf” to me. I don’t like it at all, I’m afraid. [name_m]Roman[/name_m] is a lovely name but I don’t see the appeal of [name_m]Wolf[/name_m].

Thank you for all your replies and honest answers! For some reason I just adore [name_m]Wolf[/name_m]. I do get that if you say it fast it sounds like roaming wolf and I’m not sure if that bothers me. I could always swap the mn with something else for that reason.

I absolutely love [name_m]Roman[/name_m]. I don’t think the meaning with [name_m]Wolf[/name_m] is a problem at all.

It’s not bad it just sounds like [name_m]Roman[/name_m] is the adjective describing the [name_m]Wolf[/name_m] so it’s like a phrase instead of a name

I love [name_m]Wolf[/name_m]. It’s a great middle name! The whole combo does sound a bit wordy. However, I think that if you love it that’s all that matters. [name_m]How[/name_m] often are people going to be saying his first & middle together? Probably not very often.

I understand the connection with [name_m]Rome[/name_m] and [name_m]Romulus[/name_m] and [name_m]Remus[/name_m] and wolves, however I don’t think that is too much of an issue. However, [name_m]Roman[/name_m] [name_m]Wolf[/name_m] sounds like you’re describing an object though, like [name_u]Golden[/name_u] [name_u]Bell[/name_u] or Comfy Chair (not that I really expect anyone to name their kid comfy chair). For that reason i’m not keen on the combo, however it’s totally not my child, and if you really love it there’s nothing I can do to stop you.

Have you considered the name [name_m]Ronan[/name_m]? Very similar sound, and will eliminate the [name_m]Romulus[/name_m]/[name_m]Remus[/name_m] issue. [name_m]Ronan[/name_m] [name_m]Wolf[/name_m] still sounds great.

I do see your point. It’s a guilty pleasure name combo. It will definitely still be on my list but to be useable I will probably need to drop [name_m]Wolf[/name_m] I think. Or add a second mn inbetween so it doesn’t sound like a description.
Thank you lara88
