I’ve fallen in love with a name that I saw in a movie recently, but it happens to be the surname of girl I went to high school with who was know for being… Wildly promiscuous. I have no association with her whatsoever not have I for about 12 years, however some friends and cousins of mine will know the name if we use it (they went to the same high school). Am I over thinking this or is it a reason not to use the name?
I’d rather get thoughts on the situation first than state the name. Thanks!
Overthinking it. If you haven’t interacted with her in twelve years then there’s no reason for you not to use the name. If people bring it up, just explain that you got the name from a movie and that you don’t really associate the name with the girl you knew in high school.
Well I suppose it depends on the name. If it’s [name]Taylor[/name], [name]Cooper[/name], or [name]Addison[/name] I’m sure you’re fine because they’re pretty common.
It it’s Arialisandricana, or something then I’d probably not use it.
In general however, if you don’t feel comfortable and are always going to think of the trashy girl you went to high school with when you look at your child, then I wouldn’t use it. If you personally can get past it, then all your high school friends can too.
I understand that because it’s weird to name a child the same name as someone from your past no matter what, but in this case, I think it’s a distant enough past that you should go for it.
The name is an extremely uncommon first name and also an uncommon surname – so it is pretty recognizable. It’s a name I would have never thought of for a first name before. I don’t know if I could get past the association; I’ll have to think that over. Only 5 weeks to go!
