I say yay! There is a classmate in one of my classes named [name]Virginia[/name], but I am in college so she is probably in her 20’s hahah. It is a very pretty name, though, and I am glad I know a [name]Virginia[/name].
I really really do like it. Very sweet. However, the ‘virgin’ part is in the back of my mind every time I see it, so I probably would never use it for that reason. It truly is a lovely name, though.
The “virgin” part makes it a no for me. I know a [name]Virginia[/name] and she hates her name because she thinks it sounds old, and for the “virgin” part.
I am with most of you on this one, I can’t get past the Virgin part of the name, and I feel it could spell trouble for a teenage girl. But I still love the name and wish it could be used! I’m very on the fence.
I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Virginia[/name]!!! I know three and they all love their names and have never been teased for the “virgin” thing! To me the “virgin” association is just ridiculous and anyone who brings it up has way too much time on their hands. I mean it is the in the name of two other states, one of which I live in and no one ever brings it up. I think every name has some form of teasing potential and it really can ever be avoided.
I met a sweet little 2 year-old [name]Virginia[/name], and it did wonders for my impression of the name. I loved it on her. She didn’t have a nickname, but I think [name]Ginny[/name] is cute.
I actually really like it, and love [name]Ginny[/name] as a nickname. I didn’t really associate it with “virgin” until I read the other responses, to be honest!
Honestly, I don’t like it at all. I’d never use it, I can think of two main dissuaders, and ways children/teens will poke fun. I’d rather avoid it. I don’t like the name either.
I know three Virginias in their 30s - 0ne goes by [name]Ginny[/name], one by [name]Virgie[/name], and one by [name]Virginia[/name]. I think its a great name!
Yes! The most popular girl and voted the most fashionable in high school was named [name]Virginia[/name] and she always went by “[name]GiGi[/name]”. [name]Just[/name] fabulous!
I didn’t vote cause I fall somewhere in the middle-
I grew up with a [name]Virginia[/name] who went by [name]Ginny[/name]. I always thought of her name as a shriller and more annoying sounding version of [name]Jenny[/name] (sorry, i know that’s harsh) [name]Virgie[/name] sounds cute to me, but it kind of highlights the ‘virgin’ in the name…[name]Gigi[/name] is the best potential nickname in my opinion. I am not a huge fan of [name]Virginia[/name] so I wouldn’t use it, but I like it for someone else. I would use [name]Georgia[/name] (also with nn [name]Gigi[/name]) so [name]Virginia[/name] fits with the style I like…
[name]Both[/name] my husband and I have aunts named [name]Virginia[/name]. Mine goes by V now, but went by [name]Ginny[/name] when she was younger. I once have a 20-something waitress named [name]Virginia[/name], and I thought it was refreshing! I love [name]Ginny[/name], but I prefer [name]Ginevra[/name].
I love the name [name]Virginia[/name]! I actually had it on our very short list for this baby but we ended up going with something else. I think it’s a beautiful name. As for the “virgin” thing, I could only see that being an issue maybe in middle school? Besides, it’s pronounced Vir-[name]GIN[/name]-ya, not VIRGIN-ya, if that makes sense. I don’t hear “virgin” when I say it aloud is what I’m trying to say. Anyway, great name! Yes, bring it back
When I was in third grade, I knew a [name]Virginia[/name], and I hated her because I thought her name was awful. I think it was the hard V and G sounds I didn’t like.
Since then…I can’t say I really like the name. As a [name]Jennifer[/name], I always hated “[name]Ginny[/name]” because I thought it was a rip-off of [name]Jenny[/name], and [name]Virgie[/name] just sounds icky.
HOWEVER.
[name]Ever[/name] since hearing that Train song, “Meet [name]Virginia[/name]” (Train - Meet Virginia - YouTube), I have to say I no longer have the name on my “Worst Names [name]EVER[/name]” list. It’s more null for me now–but as a child, I had an immediate visceral dislike for it.
I grew up with a [name]Virginia[/name]. She goes by [name]Gina[/name].
I love the name.
[name]Virginia[/name] is wonderful. I have a stunning friend with the name who often goes by [name]Ginny[/name], this name needs to be brought back!
I have a friend called [name]Virginia[/name] and it had never crossed my mind that it had ‘virgin’ in it. I don’t think it’s a problem though (it’s not an offensive term).
I think it’s a good name; suits an adult with a sensible job, but still feminine. [name]Ginny[/name] is cute.
I know a [name]Virginia[/name] nn [name]Gena[/name], I think this Virgin issue is ridiculous, I’ve never even made the connection let alone thought it was scandalous or teasing material. Virginity isnt a huge taboo topic or anything (at least I dont think so)
Bring it back!
I think it’s such a gorgeous name, with such adorable nickname possibilities {[name]Ginny[/name], [name]Nia[/name], Virgo, [name]Gia[/name] etc}. Of course there would be “Virgin” teasing, but I honestly think I’d look past that. I love it!
