My baby boy is almost 10 weeks old. His older sister is Wren. We struggled with a boy name. We tend to like 1 syllable nature names. Someone on name berry suggested Sky for a boy and at first I didn’t like it but when I re-read it I had almost a premonition—I saw my daughter and I walking at a farm near our house where we like to walk. There was a little boy with us snd my daughter said to him “No, Sky” in her itty bitty voice and since then I knew his name was Sky. I never second guessed myself since it was so clear in the image I had. We went with Simon for a middle name.
Flash forward to January and he was born. Ever since then I get either stunned silence when I say his name or people think he’s a girl because of his name. Now I’m having name regret and worried he will be made fun of.
Should I change his name? What are your thoughts on the name Sky for a boy? If you think I should change his name what names do you have? We like nature names. Preferably one syllable.
I really love [name_u]Sky[/name_u] Simon. It sounds very special for you as well. I see [name_u]Sky[/name_u] as unisex, but maybe that’s not everyone’s perception!
Seeing as he’s so young, you could change his name, depending on your jurisdiction. If you’re dreading introducing him, maybe that’s the right choice. However, I will say that it sounds like you chose his name for a reason, and most people grow into their names. I wouldn’t recommend changing his name unless it’s actively, consistently making you unhappy over a period of time. Name regret is common and often fades.
If you ultimately decide to change his name, I think [name_m]Simon[/name_m] [name_u]Sky[/name_u] would be lovely! It would keep the names you chose together and still sound well. However, if you don’t love [name_m]Simon[/name_m] as a first, that’s probably not the right option.

I think [name_u]Sky[/name_u] is totally unisex, so I wouldn’t be surprised to hear it on a little boy at all. In fact, while the name is not my personal style, I think it’s really refreshing to hear on a baby boy! I think baby name regret is a pretty common thing, and so I would definitely give it some time before making the decision to change it. As that as long as you and your partner love it for your son, I think it’s the perfect name for him.
Here are some other suggestions, if you do decide to change:
[name_m]Hawk[/name_m]
[name_u]Lark[/name_u]

I have taught many boys named Sky. I think of it as very male. I don’t know know where you live but no boy named [name_u]Sky[/name_u] is made fun of where I live.
[name_u]Sky[/name_u] for a boy is so handsome! I see [name_u]Sky[/name_u] as perfectly unisex.
I think a lot of people who choose a more uncommon name for their child go through bouts where they might regret it. I mean, it’s no Henry. But thankfully, not everyone has to love the name as long as you do. Maybe give it a bit of time and see if your feelings towards the name change?
[name_u]Sky[/name_u] is unisex for sure so I can understand why people might assume hes a girl right now but this won’t be much of a problem later when he looks like a young boy and not a baby. I don’t think he will be teased because of his name. I think it sometimes feels worse for a boy to be misgendered for whatever reason so I don’t think you’re regretting the name just getting used to the quirks.
Even though I know Sky is technically unisex, I would assume a child with the name was a little girl, which is simply because i’ve only ever known females with the name. Even so, I think it’s a really sweet name and I wouldn’t have a response at all like the ones you’ve described. In saying that, if I’m being honest, I do prefer it for a girl.
I love the story behind how you chose the name so part of me wants to encourage you to keep it. The other part of me thinks that if you feel uncomfortable sharing the name and upset by the responses (and fearful of teasing) then it’s worth considering changing it to something else. He is only 10 weeks old after all.
But if you still adore it and it’s purely other people’s responses that have made you question it then I think you should stick with it (you can always revisit it later).

Some of these are definitely still unisex but are probably more commonly used on boys than Sky. It’s definitely a regional thing though; some people who have responded know male Skys so keep that in mind. Perceptions are different everywhere and my experience/thoughts are informed only by where I live (Australia).
But taking a step back from that, I think Sky is a really lovely name and I think if I met a little boy with the name I could end up really loving it!
Name regret/ anxiety/ worry. So many emotions. I can say I struggled with mine for a year I wish I would have just embraced it. I think you need to figure out what bothers you the most and see if it’s really worth it for him to go by something else. There’s always something people can raise an eyebrow at but if it feels right for you that’s what matters. I knew a male [name_u]Skyler[/name_u] who went by [name_u]Sky[/name_u] just fine.
For what it’s worth I think [name_u]Wren[/name_u] and [name_u]Sky[/name_u] are so sweet together and [name_u]Sky[/name_u] is perfectly handsome for a boy!
I actually prefer [name_u]Sky[/name_u] for a boy! Imo, [name_u]Sky[/name_u] is unisex, off-beat, naturey and has a great wow factor (it’s kinda like a guilty pleasure name that everybody likes at some point but never dared to use). I think [name_u]Sky[/name_u] is a great name and I’m sure he will wear his name well.
However, if this feeling of name regret keeps on bugging you endlessly for, say, months, and you don’t feel comfortable/confident enough to call his name in public, maybe changing his name is the right choice.

If it helps, I go to high school with a male [name_u]Sky[/name_u] (and no female Sky’s) and he doesn’t have any issues with his name! I think it works perfectly well for a boy.
I think [name_u]Sky[/name_u] is such a great name for a boy! I’ve only known of one male [name_u]Skye[/name_u] (a professional baseball player, lol, height of masculinity I suppose). Your little guy has such a handsome name and I love [name_u]Wren[/name_u] & Sky. It’s so whimsical in the best way.
[name_m]Even[/name_m] though [name_u]Sky[/name_u] is considered “unisex” to my it read masculine. That could be because the [name_u]Sky[/name_u] I know is a boy. I wouldn’t worry about teasing. I say keep it!
Oh, I think [name_u]Sky[/name_u] is a lovely name for a boy, and I absolutely love it paired with Simon! We have a handsome little [name_u]Skyler[/name_u] in our family, and he uses [name_u]Sky[/name_u] as a nickname. I also went to school with a boy named Skyler, who also went by Sky. He was a pretty popular guy in high school, and I don’t think he ever had any issues as far as getting made fun of or anything. Nothing that I saw or heard myself, anyway.
If you do decide you want to change it, and if you like [name_u]Skyler[/name_u] as a name, it might sound a little more “boyish” to those who can’t see [name_u]Sky[/name_u] by itself being for boys, although it technically is unisex. I think [name_u]Skyler[/name_u] [name_m]Simon[/name_m] is very cute, and he could even still go by Sky.
[name_u]Sky[/name_u] is a lovely vibrant name it’s really happy choice and I actually love (almost prefer) for a boy. I think a little boy named [name_u]Sky[/name_u] is just beyond adorable. Personally I do not understand the shock behind [name_u]Sky[/name_u] being used for a boy. Its a unisex name and even in popular culture [name_u]Sky[/name_u] was the main character of a male in the musical Mama [name_f]Mia[/name_f] so I’m just saying that yes [name_u]Sky[/name_u] is used by girls a lot more than boys it’s still not shocking on a boy! [name_u]Sky[/name_u] [name_m]Simon[/name_m] sounds gorgeous I absolutely love alliteration so this is a winner to me. I personally wouldn’t change his name but if you feel uncomfortable using [name_u]Sky[/name_u] then change his name sooner rather than later.

I would assume that [name_u]Sky[/name_u] was a girl, but it’s because I have only met girl Sky’s. I don’t think it’s totally feminine either. It’s a nature, unisex name that people will get used to on a boy. You have a sweet story behind the name, too. If you still love it, I don’t think it needs changing.
