Is this name regret?

I like [name_u]Sky[/name_u] on a boy! So handsome…I also feel [name_u]Skylar[/name_u] leans boy for me. [name_u]Skylar[/name_u] is actually one of my favorite boy names. Unfortunately my husband is a huge fan of that show Breaking Bad where the wife is named [name_u]Skylar[/name_u] so I know he would never agree to it. [name_m]Ive[/name_m] rarely ever heard of [name_u]Skylar[/name_u] on a girl. [name_m]Ive[/name_m] only known boy [name_u]Skylar[/name_u] so im mad that one show character could change the vibe of the name.

But anyway personal tangent aside, I was going to suggest maybe [name_u]Skylar[/name_u] as a full name if it sounds more masculine to you?

I think [name_u]Sky[/name_u] on its own is perfectly fine for a boy though. When I see [name_u]Skye[/name_u] spelled with an e on the end, I think girl and [name_u]Sky[/name_u] I would think boy. I think [name_u]Sky[/name_u] and [name_u]Wren[/name_u] are beautiful together.

Personally I really love it! I know it won’t be everyone’s cup of tea but if you love it then don’t let anyone put you off! I especially love your reasoning for it it’s super cute. Plus I don’t think its that uncommon, isn’t the male character in Mamma [name_f]Mia[/name_f] called Sky?

I also think it’s a bit of a faff to change names after they’re born, my name was changed when I was younger and it’s just odd to me that when I was born I was called a whole different name for a while :joy: I had a tiny bit of name regret when my daughter was a few weeks old but she had so many cards with her name in it by that point and so many personalised bits bought for her I just thought it would be a bit sad to change it at that point, now she suits it perfectly I think.

Oh, what an absolutely wonderful name! I am honestly gushing over the name [name_u]Sky[/name_u] Simon, and it’s utter perfection with big sister [name_u]Wren[/name_u] (I think our naming styles are very similar, as I also tend towards nature one syllable names and love alliteration). It sounds like such a bright, cheerful name and makes me happy just thinking of it. While I like the name [name_u]Sky[/name_u] on either gender, I adore it for a boy. So gorgeous!

While my vote is to keep it because I personally love it, I do think that if it truly keeps bothering you, you should consider changing it. But if it’s just people’s reactions that are worrying you, I really think you needn’t worry. There are so many people that also will love his name, and it isn’t as if you’ve not given him a perfectly legitimate name.

Congratulations to you and [name_u]Wren[/name_u] on your sweet new addition to the family!

I like it, but if it continues to bother you, I think [name_u]Kai[/name_u] would be a wonderful option.

I like Sky. If I’m honest I do see it as slightly more feminine but that’s only because it seems to have more usage as a feminine name.
I think he is young enough to be able to change his name.
What is putting you off, people’s reactions? [name_u]Or[/name_u] have you just gone off his name?

Maybe Kite? So you had two nature/bird names. Also Kite could be a nod to his former name of Sky?
Kite Simon.
[name_u]Wren[/name_u] and Kite.

I absolutely love [name_u]Sky[/name_u] for a boy! [name_u]Sky[/name_u] [name_m]Simon[/name_m] is just absolutely heavenly (no pun intended  ) and the story behind your choice is wonderful. It sounds really meant to be.

Unless you genuinely dislike the name or strongly feel that it doesn’t fit him, I wouldn’t change it on account of a few odd reactions. I have experienced similar with all three of my children’s names – none of which is particularly “out there” where we live – I think it sometimes takes people aback a little if they hear a name they haven’t encountered before. It doesn’t mean they hate the name, or that it’s a bad name, and it certainly doesn’t mean that he will be teased for his name in the future.

[name_u]Sky[/name_u] is seriously cool and handsome, and isn’t strongly gender-coded either way for me, especially in this spelling. It also really seems to fit your short, sweet, whimsical, cool nature style. [name_u]Wren[/name_u] and [name_u]Sky[/name_u] are just amazing together!

I think [name_m]Sy[/name_m] would make for a cool nickname for a little [name_u]Sky[/name_u] [name_m]Simon[/name_m] (it works for both of his names), and it might be a touch less androgynous for situations when you’re just not feeling up to explaining your choice or facing unwelcome comments.

In my experience, the period of people reacting strangely to a child’s name – and, if we’re honest, of us as parents feeling a little awkward and self-conscious saying the name sometimes – is fairly short-lived. As soon as that baby starts to interact and sit up and crawl and eventually toddle and talk, people seem much more ready to accept a more unconventional or “grown up” name than on a newborn, and as parents we’ve totally relaxed into the name. It can often feel a little forced at first, but I think that’s totally normal!

Best of luck :four_leaf_clover:

I agree with other posters [name_u]Sky[/name_u] [name_m]Simon[/name_m] is a great name and goes so well with your daughters name! I wouldn’t change it if it’s the name you love, and just as support most of the Sky’s that I’ve known have been male and I don’t think they’ve ever had a problem with their name.

Beautiful name! I love Sky for a boy. I think it’s perfect and I love your description of your vision. Don’t let others’ opinions sway you from a great name unless you just truly feel it’s not the name for your son.
Also, I don’t really see why it’s seen as feminine. Besides the nature aspect, it reminds me a lot of Kai which is very unisex but I hear mostly on boys.

I’m sorry you’ve faced those dreaded raised eyebrows. [name_u]Sky[/name_u] is a wonderful choice. I hope you keep it and feel satisfied about that decision.

I love [name_u]Sky[/name_u] on a boy! I actually know a [name_u]Skylar[/name_u] (b) who goes by [name_u]Sky[/name_u] frequently, and I think it is so cool!

[name_u]Sky[/name_u] and [name_u]Wren[/name_u] are the perfect sibling names, and [name_u]Sky[/name_u] [name_m]Simon[/name_m] is amazing!

I personally don’t care for firsts and middles starting with the same letter, but if [name_m]Simon[/name_m] is important to you then that’s all that matters.

But I really like [name_u]Sky[/name_u] for a boy. Perhaps people are picturing the spelling Skye, which is very feminine to me. Maybe say, “His name is Sky, s-k-y.” And see if that changes their reaction?

And I love your premonition for the name. In my beliefs, premonitions like that aren’t imagination, they mean something bigger than we can understand right now (but again, this is just my beliefs/spirituality)

Sky is the name of Sophie’s fiancé in Mamma Mia and he’s wonderfully dashing. :sparkling_heart: However, if you’re still feeling anxious about saying his name and it’s been a while, then I would change it.

Other nature names:

Leo
Wesley — might be too much “W” with Wren, though
Forest/Forrest
Jasper
River — might be unisex
Glen/Glenn
Ash — def unisex

[name_u]Sky[/name_u] is definitely gender neutral, and I absolutely adore it for a boy. Boys have what people think of as “girl names” all the time but alot of names are actually unisex, way more than what people think. Please don’t change it. [name_u]Wren[/name_u] and [name_u]Sky[/name_u] are precious together.

I do understand how [name_u]Sky[/name_u] is usually a girls name (normally Skye) but [name_u]Sky[/name_u] on a boy is great! Especially now in 2021 everyone is really into breaking the gender barrier and there are many names becoming neutral and unisex since everyone is using names they love, not because it’s a “boys name” or a “girls name.” [name_u]Sky[/name_u] is adorable. There’s [name_u]Sky[/name_u] from Mamma [name_f]Mia[/name_f] and [name_u]Skylar[/name_u] [name_m]Astin[/name_m] the actor! Great leading Skys and I really think you won’t regret [name_u]Sky[/name_u]. Please, [name_u]Sky[/name_u] is a beautiful name and I’m sure everyone will swoon over it
